The Perspective in 2010
The goal of TDEP was to reach the policy of “No Need to Bury the Trash in Taipei and to Recycle Totally” in 2010. TDEP planned steps to reach the goal. First, they carried out the policy of recycling kitchen waste in 2003. Second, they changed the passive way of trash treatment to the positive way of “recycling resources” and “lessening trash” in Taipei. Third, they used the resource-oriented, reduction-oriented, and multi-treatment to implement the program. Finally, the sustainable development in the garbage treatment would be the perspective of Taipei.

Flying Ashes is the Key Point to Reach the Goal of “No Need to Bury the Trash

“No Need to Bury the Trash” is the way to solve the problem of the garbage. Since Taiwan is crowded, the environment burden is heavy. And the problem that face is very complicated. It is no easy to find the place to burn the garbage or build the landfill sites, and flying ashes after burning is much, too. In order to solve the difficulty, the quantity of garbage had to be decreased, and the implementation of recycling resources would be enforced to reach the goal of “No Need to Bury the Trash”.

Commissioner Ni Shi Biao of TDEP said, “Since flying ashes has heavy metals and dioxin, it is difficult to recycle. Now the most important thing is to sort the garbage and to recycle resources. If we can reduce the quantity of garbage, the flying ashes would be decreased, too. And then we can release the loading of treating the flying ashes”.

From the aspects of environmental protection and sanitary, Taipei city would display the results of garbage treatment and recycling resources. We hoped the experience of environmental protection in Taipei would be taken as a model for other countries to learn, hence to see the beauty of Taipei.

All of us were glad to hear the news. Let us stride forward to the goal of an infinitely clean Taipei city.
