(2)The Story about the downfall of Takopueanu

Under Curses (by Mrs. Mei-si Lu)

This story is also included in The Vanished Takopueanu by Jhung-cheng Pu.

The Legend of Goddess of Water (by Mr. Yang-ming Fang)
A beautiful goddess of water fell in love with a young man of Takopueanu and often disguised herself into a pretty girl to date with the man. Another man of the village was also deeply attracted by her beauty but could not win her love. One evening the jealous man followed her to a deep pool in the river (Zengwen River) and found that she walked into the water. The man then realized that the girl was not a human being at all and led the whole villagers to attack her the next evening. The goddess of water, however, escaped into the deep pool safely.

The goddess of water began a series of revenge. When the people of Takopueanu passed any rivers or valleys, they would soon be washed away by the suddenly rising water. The flood carried them downstream and back to the deep pool of the river. This pool is so called “Ghost Pool”. More people died and Takopueanu soon vanished.

The Mysterious Ghost Pool

The Revenge of the Boar (included in The Vinished Takopueanu by Jhung-cheng Pu)

A boar disguised itself into a man and wanted to date with a girl of Takopueanu. The girl’s brother hided behind the gate and killed the boar with a spear before it changed into a man. The wail of the boar stampeded the boars of the valley. They began to attack the village of Takopueanu.

The villagers gathered in the hall when they knew that the boars would come to revenge it. They killed many boars. But there were so many boars that their bodies piled higher than the hall. The boars rushed into the hall and killed all the villagers. Only two brothers who had gone hunting survived.
