Takopueanu is a branch of Bunun. It is said that their ancestors first
lived on Mt. Jade,
later moved southward to Laonong River (Kaohsiung
County Tao
Yuan High
School, Taoyuan Village) and then to the east bank of Nansinsian River,
and finally settled in Alishan
County Sinmei
Village and established
Takopueanu about 400 years ago. |

There are several names for Takopueanu. In Sinmei Village
it is usually called “Takupueanu” but “Takupuanu” in the map while in Bunun it
is called “Takupulong”. We can understand that they all refer to the same tribe
from the names themselves. However, there are two more strange names in the
earlier data, i.e., “Taguifo” and
“Daguifo”. We cannot understand what “fo” in “Taguifo” mean and how it
relates to “Takopueanu”. But we soon realized that “Taguifo” was exactly
“Takupu” when the teacher told us to pronounce it with Taiwanese accents. |

Tsou has a history of 350 years. At that time, Takopueanu had more
people than Tsou and so threatened Tsou’s security. They often conflicted with
“Samiji Village”
(Shanmei Village)
and attacked northward “Tfuya Village” along Zengwen River. “Tfuya” had to send a clan to guard against them
in “Lslsuya” (Leye
Village). |
|
About 200 years ago, there was a rapid fall in Takopueanu’s population
with wars and plague. In case of the revenge of Tfuya Village Takopueanu turned
to Tapaytt Village for protection. So its customs
and language were greatly influenced by Tapaytt Village. |
Takopueanu River is where most of the people of Takopueanu inhabited.
