Conclusion and Suggestion In this study, we have collected 610 effective questionnaires, 46% of which are done by male informants while 54% of which are done by female ones. After reviewing and analyzing the questionnaires, we have the following findings. (1)Most of the informants have listened to Chinese music (79%) and enjoyed as well (72%). And the most favorable Chinese musical instrument is Chinese zither(47%). (2)72% of the informants consider Chinese music as a classical and elegant type of music. The reasons why they love Chinese music are (1) beautiful melody (223 counts), (2) special musical instruments (153 counts), and (3) magnificent atmosphere (124 counts). And the main reason why they do not love Chinese music is that they feel it is boring. (3)Of all the informants, only 31% have attended the concerts by Miaoli Chinese Music Orchestra, which shows the deficiency of proper promotion. We suggest the orchestra should hold more concert tours around Miaoli County or promote itself through live performances on social networking websites. (4)61% of the informants are willing to go to the concert if Miaoli Chinese Music Orchestra performs in their neighboring areas, while only 30% of them are willing to pay for it. In order to encourage more people to pay for the concerts, we have the following two suggestions. First, the orchestra may offer some free gifts or souvenirs to those who have frequently come to the concerts. Second, the orchestra can make more crossover music with other performing groups to attract audience with diversified interests. Strengths The orchestra has qualified and experienced teachers, and there are several local well-equipped concert halls, such as Miaobei Art Center and Miaoli Chung-Shan Hall, which can provide more opportunities for performance. Weaknesses The practice room in Gong-guan Elementary School is not spacious enough, and more percussion instruments need to be purchased. Opportunities The orchestra is constantly invited to perform in other domestic or foreign cities, which helps broaden the horizons of orchestra members. Threats The financial support from Miaoli County Government is decreasing, while the numbers of those who are learning Chinese music is also reducing. These phenomena inevitably lead to the dropping number of the orchestra members. 1.With the current teaching staff and performance facilities, the orchestra can put on a concert tour to get in touch with more local residents in Miaoli. 2.When performing in other cities, the orchestra can build its characteristics by incorporating Hakka culture into Chinese music. 3.Besides the current financial support from the local government, the orchestra needs more sponsors to help improve the practice room and purchase more musical instruments. 4. The orchestra, in order to attract more members to get involved in Chinese music, is supposed to design a complete and effective set of recruitment strategies.
