Return to the small farmer period in Shezi Island

Project Elements

How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair project support content standards, required coursework and curriculum requirements?
1.We use Taiwan's 12-year Basic Education Guildline as a standard to develop school-specific courses 'Shezi Island is my home.'

2.When conducting thematic research, we have opportunities to apply basic skills in language, mathematics, nature, society and art, etc. to solve problems encountered.

3.We learned how to conduct a research, including the process from deciding the research object, methods and instructions. Also, our research including field research. We learn to collect data, organize and analysis, and produce the results.

4.The teachers taught us to use Google collaborative platform and Google Drive to discuss problems, share resources and co-edit reports in an online collaborative learning manner.

5.We saw the rich natural ecology and special humanities of Shezi Island. We knew our hometown by exploring the food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and music. We appreciate the beauty of our hometown and cherish it.

6.FuAn Elementary School has a special course 'Shezi Island is my home.' It provides the framework and background knowledge for our research.

7.Many of the concepts in textbooks are limited. If we can go out of the classroom and integrate more with our living environment, we can make the learning easier and more empathetic. We plan to observe the changes under the living environment of our hometown through research. We make effort to keep the beautiful places and try to improve the area by reflecting the problem to the government.

8.In the process of searching the Internet, we found that there are a lot of unexpected resources on the Internet, which surprised us.

What information tools and technologies did you use to complete your CyberFair project?
1.We use portable tablets or ChromeBooks(11' laptop), which functions in taking the photos, recording the videos or audios, word processing, web browsing, and online co-editing. Sometimes we use personal computers in the computer classroom. Students cooperate with group work to search the information, make presentations and write notes.

2.We appriciate the Taipei City Government Education Bureau for the funding assistance, and school administrators for their hard work planning, purchasing and building our convenient campus digital learning environment.

3.Teachers who are part-time administrators of the school have submitted action learning projects to the Taipei Municipal Government Education Bureau, and they have successfully passed the review and received subsidy funds. Every student above the middle school level has its own dedicated tablet computer, which is usually placed in a mobile charging car in the classroom and able to be used when needed.

4.The tablet computer is multifunctional. It is able to replace the traditional recorders, cameras, notebooks and drawing paper. Also, there are various functional and educational apps that are free to download.

5.Using the Internet to search is fast. Search engine helps to filter information we want quickly and accurately. We use 'keywords' to quickly find the key information from a large amount of data, and there are many types of them, such as images, voices, videos, or interactive programs. After searching, we store and share data online in the cloud platform which is convenience.

In what ways did your students act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
1.Teacher feedback: Students collected relevant information through interviews and edited the data into systematic topics. This work strengthen students' high-level abilities in speech expression, logic thinking , and problem solving.

2. Alumi feedback: I hope that all of you would prefer to study harder and explore the world in the future to make yourselves better and have a broader vision.

3.Feedback from elderly in Shezi Island: In the future, may all of you benefit the community and contribute yourselves to the country and the society.

What has been or will be the impact of your project on your community?
1.We hope that more people know the beauty of their hometown. By evoking the feelings of cherishment and protecting the hometown environment, people could have a better living environment in the future. We have spent a lot of time collating, comparing and recording the collected data, and presenting this valuable information on the website in the form of multimedia. We would like to share SheZi Island with people from all over the world.
To introduce the beauty and sorrow of the small farmer in Shezi Insland in Taipei City.

2.We shared many interviews and practical processes of small farmers in Shezi Island, which are full of wisdom and worthy to read.

3.The Shezi Island area has given people the image of being flooded and economically backward; however, they often ignore the natural ecology and humanities that have been lost in urbanized areas.

4.Through this study, we have known more farmers who care about Shezi Island. With their sharing and guidance, we feel like having wonderful and interesting trips to the past.

5.Teachers, parents, and community residents have evoked many of their past life memories and childhood memories.

6.From collecting historical materials about the Shezi Island to editing as the final reports, doing this research is a difficult but meaningful learning journey. The most meaningful benefits on the research of community environmental topics is inspiring students to loves the local area and build confidence on local identity.

7.Our case studies help us learn in school-based courses. By better understanding the beauty of our hometown, we can also build a better sense of local identity, and tell others with confidence that Shezi Island is my hometown!
