The Process of Research


In the course of cyber fair, we learned that research can be classified as qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research involves doing interviews or gaining in-depth knowledge about a certain subject. Quantitative research methods include using survey to conduct large scale investigations. In the class, we first took a look at the internet pages made by past members of the cyber fair, trying to use mind maps to grasp the research subject. Then, starting from the eight themes of cyber fair, we tried to come up with subjects related to Linkou Kang Chiao this community, making “Zhu-Lin-Shan Guanyin Temple” as the final subject.

We looked up some second hand information about this subject, organizing the data and raised questions based on the content that the data lacked of. Then, we started to assign work. This is an important step, since information about Zhu-Lin-Shan Temple includes various categories such as history, architecture and festivals, collecting these data required division of labor and collaboration. Finally, we entered the stage of interview, finding many locals in Linkou to conduct the interviews. The job of interview is crucial, for it can help us to know more about Zhu-Lin-Shan Temple, and get a picture of general people’s knowledge about the temple.
