The diversity of temples

Many temples in Taiwan combine Taoism and Buddhism. One doesn’t have to tell it apart, since Taoism is a branch of Buddhism. Taoism is a native religion, whereas Buddhism came from India. The gods of Taoism are more down-to-earth, while those of Buddhism are exactly the opposite. The diverse demand of the public makes the temples in Taiwan diverse. Besides the main god, many gods related to people’s daily lives are worshipped inside the temples.

There are many gods in Zhu-Lin-Shan Guanyin Temple. The most famous are the eighteen-hand Guanyin, the goddess of childbirth, Manjushiri Bodhisattva, Guansheng Dijun and the earth god.
