[Researching Process]

The beginning of the printing industry research

First time when we assembled for the CyberFair, we didn’t know what a CyberFair is. After the explanation by teacher, I had some basic ideas about it and feel fresh about doing research. However, no job is easy in the beginning. Teacher discussed with us about the topic for CyberFair. First we thought about the “Thunder Temple” close to our school, the few temples that worship the god of thunder in Taiwan; someone mentioned that there are many printing factories around our school. After the lively discussion, we decided to focus to find information about the printing press industry in Zhonghe. Teacher also explained the rules of this team that everyone needs to follow strictly. We have to mind our manners with not only our teammates, but also the person we’re going to interview outside the school.

Teacher told us we have certain steps to do for the research. The first step is to know about the topic. Then we started to collect information.

We promote our research flow chart in the school.

Identify the Area for Researching

After we made our mind to the topic, teacher searched on New Taipei City Industry Land Website. We know there’s an industry area near us called “Erbazhang Industry Area”. In this area, there are 718 companies of printing industry and data storage media manufacturing and duplicating industry. It is the main industry here.

Erbazhang Industry area has 718 companies of printing industry and data storage media manufacturing and duplicating industry. It account for 20.44% of the total amount. The jobs and products of this industry includes printed matters, wedding invitations, business cards, plate making, books, labels, binding, PVC boards, PP photo printing paper, colored boxes, stamps, laser-printing metal plates, etc., There’re numerous of items!

Create the Research Outline

After we fixed the topic, first we need to finish an assignment-“the structure of the research” and “how to write paragraphs”. We analyzed the research structures of other good works from the past CyberFair, find the main idea of each chapter according to the context. Teacher only gave us suggestion and concluded for us. For example, each page title should include:

1.      Introduction to the printing industry.

2.      Introduction to the machines and jobs of printing industry

3.      The history of printing industry

4.      The difficulties of printing industry

The future trend of printing industry

10 of us turned in 10 assignments. We put our heads together, purified and refined the structure. Teacher presented all our assignments in the computer lab and let us compare and contract which one is the most complete one. Through this process, we can feel by ourselves that the works from CyberFair all have similar elements. Teacher told us this is the way must be passed for a research. It’s fun and quite logical.

These are our assignment. Everyone needs to write a research outline.

Research ProcessFind topic, resources, interview, promote, build website

Our process is like this: First, we fixed the topica research on the printing industry in Zhonghe. Then we looked for resources, visited the factories and interviewed with people. At last, we compile the materials, and drew mind maps. However, teacher suggested that we should share our working results to the schoolmates after we spent so much time and labor in the research! That’s why we made our PowerPoint and bind them together. We tried to let more people know the interesting parts of printing industry; we even let people to make their own mini books using the way we found on the Internet. Finally, we built a website to present the research results and our reflections. The work was finally complete!
