[Interview experience]
Interview process:
Our Cyber
Fair team began to study the printing industry from the end of October. In
order to understand the industry better, it is not enough to find information
from the Internet. So we have to visit the printing factories and visit the
people at those places. One of our homework assignments is to ask 10 questions.
There are 10 people in our team, and there will be 100 questions! But asking questions
is also tricky. You cannot shoot in the dark. Instead, you ask questions based
on the type of the company or the characteristics of the factory. Moreover, the
teacher said that it is better to have a narrative before the question fully
describe the background of the problem, so that it can focus the problem. So
later, our questions were longer. Take the following three questions for
example.
1. When printing something, sometimes the
color can be accurately matched, but why sometimes there are dirt spots on the
printed matter?
2. Before the photocopying, there must be a
first draft. What are the procedures for pre-printing design or computer
design?
3. Usually,
there must be a lot of customers in the photocopying shop. There are so many
photocopying factories in Zhonghe, but why do they like to come? Are there any
features to attract them? Then...What kind of customers you usually have? They’re
here for DM printing, or for book photocopying?
In addition,
teacher reminded us the problems we might encounter when we raise questions.
For example: We might not able to understand their answers; The answers don’t
get to the point; We have no idea what to ask on the spot... , etc. There might
have so many problems, so we have to prepare well in advance. Then we practiced
raise questions and answer in computer lab. Most of the time, teachers played
the interviewee. Of course, we also have to learn courtesy. We always remind ourselves
to mind our words usage and tone.
It’s good
that we have prepared for the visit first. Otherwise, if we forget to the
questions to ask, it will be too embarrassing.
|
For each interview, we have to prepare a
draft of the interview and practice at school first. We took notes on live
interviews as well.
|
Although there is no expensive voice
recorder, we can use mobile phone to record. (Need to get the consent from the
interviewees).
|
|
|
During the interview, when we cannot
understand their answers, uncle and aunt would use real object to explain.
|
We went to three different printing
factories, and we have different interview experiences. Thank you for letting
us know what printing is.

Character writing
We interviewed
three companies and factories in our entire Cyber Fair. They are Anzhen, Jialin
and CardHome. The uncles and aunts of these three companies are very
enthusiastic and very kind to introduce the company for us. At first, we were
unfamiliar with the printing machines. They took us to visit for 2 hours so we
can know them better. But it’s a pity that it has lost a lot of time to ask
questions.
Thanks
to the uncles and aunts for introducing us to the printing knowledge, we learned
the knowledge that we can’t learn from the school, and visit experts who never
know. Next, we organized the interview notes to appreciate these people.

Anzhen Printing Factory – Aunt Xie works in
An-peng for 12 years
Aunt Xie made me feel warm. When we
arrived, she came out to meet us first. She also took us to visit the entire
printing factory, which has many different departments, and also took us to visit
different companies. They are coating and plate making factories, and many more.
The factory that I am interested in most is the printing factory, which has
several oversized machines. Although the machine is very noisy, Aunt Xie carefully
introduced us the four colors of CMYK, they can use these four colors to create
a variety of colors. After the visit, she allowed us to ask questions and she answered
questions one by one. Later, she took us to another small printing factory.
There was only one coating machine there, but it was very cool, because it cut
paper speedy, that our eyes couldn’t keep up. When we leave there, they gave us
a poster for commemoration.

Hongwei Color Plate Making Factory – Uncle Li,
20 years of work experience
Uncle Li is very nice. He introduced us the
machines in the printing factories and told us about the printing process.
There are a lot of things related to printing. He not only told us things, he
actually showed us how to operate. Although there were some technique problems
so it didn’t work, but doing it let me know more about this machine, because he
showed us the inside of the machine, ink cleaning, etc. In addition, he also
showed us how to use the machine he used for printing in the past, this is the
machine he used to work here when he still need to go to school in the day time.
This machine impressed me very much, because he has very handsome ultraviolet
light. Although it is very slow in making plates, but they still keep it. All
in all, he introduced the machine and also answered many of our questions, such
as the most frequently received orders and the most used paper. It is for sure
that in printing industry, all the parts must be coordinated with each other!
Uncle Li knew this industry very well so he’s the right person to ask questions!

Jialin Printing Company – Uncle Huang More than 20 years of work experience
Aunt
Huang Mama about 10 years of work experience
Why do we call Uncle Huang and Aunt Huang?
Because they are the parents of our sixth grade classmates, so they are very
good to us. When we arrived, they treat us with chocolate! Although the company
is small, the husband and wife work together to make the company work. They
told us a lot about printing, plate making, die mold, etc., what they need to
use in printing, and explain to us how to bind the printed paper. Most of their products are paper boxes,
PVC. In addition, they also introduced some post-printing process. There are
many kinds of gold stamping, coating and so on. Finally, Huang Dad also showed
us the actual assembled carton. In the process, I also helped us think about
the problem and answered our questions more enthusiastically.
We
also asked a lot about the development of the printing industry and the reasons
why they chose to do the printing industry and the orders they received they
remember the best. Although they only have 2 people, they solve all different
problems. I am very impressed! They have to work and pick up children (our
classmates). They are very kind when other guests and manufacturers came. They
gave us a robot paper model. Look at so many cuts on the paper, they are so
delicate!

CardHome Network Technology Printing
Company – Aunt Li
The company of Card House is the most
complete of the three companies we visited. Being able to contact Sister Li to
make the instant Q&A function on their website is really amazing. When we
arrived, we had to put down our luggage first, and we had to swipe the card
before entering the door, giving people a very scientific feeling. Li Wei first
introduced the digital department, and explained the various pre-printing
machines. At this time, Uncle Jiang suddenly ran out to introduce us to their
workflow (sop). After an hour of introduction, she was there to help us
explain.

CardHome Network Technology Printing
Company - Uncle Jiang
They have two branches in Taipei and Zhonghe.
Uncle Jiang is the manager of the business office of Zhonghe branch. One of his
jobs is to welcome guests and introduce their machines to many people. Uncle Jiang
introduced “Komori”(brand name) printing machines. Uncle Jiang said that the
printing machines here use the same brand, because different brands may print out
different colors, which may lead to mistakes, then cost unnecessary losses. There
are two kinds of rotary machines. After visiting the first one, he wants us to
guess what’s special about the second one. After we visited the factory next
door, we found that the air here is not as powdery as the next door, because they
use newer type of machine, more eco-friendly, and better to the health of the
operators. Then we went to the surface processing area. He also introduced it
in an interesting way. Some coating machines are not eco-friendly. Many
countries banned plastic coating in Europe and America, but waterborne coating
is expensive, and is not popular in Taiwan. He’s so resourceful; no wonder he’s
the manager. Finally, we went back to the office, where they treat us with
colas, and their beautiful printed souvenirs. It was indeed a good trip.
