After finishing our community sharing activity in Yonghe-Zhonghe Street Performing, we returned to school and performed for teachers and students at Yu-Tsai. It was our first shuochang performance in school. Through our performance, we wanted to help everyone understand that there is more to the art of shuochang than just cross talks.

Event Preparation

In order to increase participation from the audience, we made some changes in our performance. We added a huge board and ballets for voting so the audience would be able to pick their favorite form of shuochang after the exhibition.

Main Performance

It was finally show time! To ensure everyone could have a better understanding about shuochang, we included a brief introduction before each type of performance. The audience gave us its full attention. They laughed, recited, and sang with us throughout the show.

Let’s Shuochang

In the end of the performance, we invited a few schoolmates to try storytelling and tongue twister battles with us. It was really exciting. A student from grade four class Zhi left the audience in awe with a super fast tongue twister.

Shuochang Voting

The last activity in today’s event was shuochang voting. Every teacher and student got to vote for his or her favorite show. The hilarious cross talks duo was voted the most popular form of shuochang. Today’s activity came to a smooth conclusion.

Audience Feedbacks

Chen, Han-Fei

I got really excited even before the show started. I thought their performance was outstanding. You guys must keep it up!

Chen, Wei-Zhong

I thought everyone was great, and they must have trained for a long time. I wonder who their trainer was. I hope I could do equally well under Ms. Li’s guidance.

Huang, Qian-Yun

Their shuochang and clapper performances were outstanding. I want to be able to do shuochang so well just like them.

Zhang, Ning-En

I thought they did an outstanding job, especially the cross talks duo, it made everyone laugh so hard.

Ou-yang, Le-En

After watching the performance, I thought they were awesome and brave because memorizing the script and overcoming stage fright are very tough for me.

Yang, Xin-Ni

The performance was lively, fun, and humorous, and their movements were in sync with the verses. I thought it was a great performance. I would like them to exaggerate their movements when performing ‘Grasshoppers and Cricket.’

Ou, Hui-Lun

After the show, I finally realized there are so many different types of shuochang performances. I have also learned the origin of these forms of shuochang.

Jiang, Cai-Jie

I thought the team did a great job because their team chemistry was excellent. Their high level of energy made me want to join the team as well.

Zhan, Xin-Yu

I thought they performed well. They were loud, their smiles were bright, and their team chemistry was superb. We should all learn from them.

Zhu, Yan-Jun

There were some segments that I was familiar with, but there were some that I haven’t learned before. I thought they did a great job because their articulation was very clear, and they seemed poised on stage.
