“F--! How could he denounce me publicly like that in the class? What did he think he was?”
A furious Ahwen complained over the phone to his friend in his room. In addition to the angry voice, the phone call was full of four-letter words, the heavy bangs on the desk, and noises of objects thrown to the wall or on the ground.

Ahwen's parents divorced while he was still an elementary student. He lived with a stern father who beaten him up frequently. He suffered from bruises, injuries, and broken bones. He was adopted by the Wu family when he was in his second year in a junior middle school.

“He had bruises on his arms, and injuries on his body. His thinly-built body looked as if he had suffered extremely.”

Upon arrival of the Wu family, Ahwen had a violent temper, unstable mood, uttering four-letter words frequently. When he was unhappy, he punched the walls of his room and threw whatever he could lay his hands. He had many bad habits. One of them was stealing money. “I didn't know where to put my money safely. I had to lock the door of my room all the time. I had to watch for my handbag constantly. I had to watch the petty cash for buying groceries. We couldn't trust him at all. We discovered he had stolen money many times. He simply ignored our persuasion completely.” His other problem was ignorance to learn. He got up in the middle of the night playing computer games, and fell sleeping in the class.

“Frankly speaking, he was very wild, impolite, and simply ignored our teaching! He lived a life in his own way. At home he did whatever he felt like to do. When we told him stop his wrongdoings, he just ignored, or pretended as if he hadn't heard what we're saying. He just didn't care.” Ahwen had a hollowed heart, and he built a wall around him, separating himself from the outside world. He was like a porcupine. As soon as he sensed a small change, he erected his sharp quills immediately.
