After the lively discussion among out Cyberfair members and the suggestion from the teacher, we decided the name of theme for competition “The One and Only Type in Taiwan－ Ri Xing Type Foundry” and used “Passion. Lead. Type.” as the team name. We couldn’t wait to start the topic research this time, and we got online to collect relevant information and started to draw mind map in order to understand Ri Xing Type Foundry. We obtained basic knowledge of Ri Xing Type Foundry during the drawing process.

We hope more people will be able to know the traditional type technique and the culture of movable printing, and we definitely should not only get into internet and look at photos if we want to explore the topic in depth. We determined to dig out unknown and unique news which won’t be able to be found online by actual visiting, interviewing and experience. We got in touch with Master Chang and hope to be able to visit Ri Xing Type Foundry to interview Master Chang. We had the first phone conversation with exciting, expecting and nervous mood; even though Master Chang was very busy, we still overcame all difficulties successfully and confirmed the time for visit and interview!

When we visited Ri Xing Type Foundry, Master Chang welcomed us warmly and started the interview that more than an hour. The visiting activities started after interview, and Master Chang demonstrated in person how to use hot-metal typesetting machine for us to understand the casting process of the type other than introduced us the history of Ri Xing, the process of printing, the function and feature of the circular pressing printer, and Lin frame..etc.!

We designed the internal school exhibition and experiential activity of “The One and Only Type in Taiwan－ Ri Xing Type Foundry” in order to let the schoolmates to know Ri Xing Type Foundry as well as feel the subtle of movable print and the beauty of traditional technique of the type. The content of the activity includes:
1. Play video “People who produce foundry type (getting to know Ri Xing Type Foundry)”
2. Display the relevant history and introduction of Ri Xing Type Foundry
3. Students’ work exhibition: excellent works in all grades
4. Experiential activity: experience type movable print in person
5. E - learning zone: knowing printing process

The relevant history of Ri Xing Type Foundry was introduced to all of the schoolmates in the school by our Cyberfair members. Without experiencing in person, it would be very difficult to understand the subtle of movable print; therefore, we also designed the experiential activity of movable print experiential box for all of the schoolmates in the school to experience type movable print in person. In accordance with the courses in the school, the exhibition of students’ work was designed to show the excellent works in all grades.

Through our mutual discussion and well-designed activities, we believe everyone is able to know Ri Xing Type Foundry deeply and feel the subtle of movable print, the beauty of traditional technique of the type, and the charm and value of standard Chinese characters!
