We have our first meeting today after the audition. I attended the Cyberfair Contest last year. It was fun. Our teacher explained what the Cyberfair is, what the eight categories of the Cyberfair are, and what our responsibilities are in this contest. Each of us has to come up with a theme and make it into a mind map. Hopefully, everyone is able to come up with a variety of topics.

We went on line to search for more information to complete the mind maps. It was very efficient to work as a team. In addition, my teammates and I watched website of the Cyberfair from the past few years. We have met up for several times, but I still find it difficult to keep track on what we are supposed to do in class. Fortunately, my teammates are always very willing to help me. It makes me feel more comfortable to be part of this team. After several discussion and suggestions from the school principal, we decided on Ri Xing Type Foundry as the topic of our project. What we need to do next is to think about the name of our team and the title of our project. Also our teacher gave us a lot of suggestions on how to pick up a name for our team and the title for the project. If we cannot find the information we need, we will have to ask the owner when we will visit the shop. I believe I need to come up with good questions before that day. We took the MRT to the type foundry. The location of the type foundry remains mysteriously hard to find. Before we went right straight to the basement we saw a whole collection of lead written characters on the Lin’s word shelf. We asked the owner a lot of questions. He gave us answers to the questions with a lot of details. After that, we went to experience the techniques of movable-type printing with a Ri Xing movable type experiential box. It was our first time to see typecasting machine in real. It was amazing. We asked permission from the owner to touch the typecasting machine. Also the owner showed us how to operate this machine. We missed the group meeting on December 8th due to the school field trip, so we were a bit behind schedule. Today the teacher asked us to accomplish two things: first, type out the interview log including the questions and answers from the interviewee; second, we need to analyze and comment on the answers of the interview. All the students who were unable to finish the tasks need to come back every evening after 3:45 pm. We typed up interview reviews in Chinese as well as in English. After finishing that task, we got to start carving the title of our project on a resin plate. First, we used a general carving knife to carve off the edge of the words. Then we used a special carving knife, straight gouge, to dig up the parts within the words we don’t need.

It is time to design the webpage. The first thing we need to do is to select photos which are required to be sort out by the categories we used for the framework. After several discussions with teachers, we decided to use PhotoImpact X3 to change the size of the photos into 330*220 and add white board on each photo. We got a lot to do these two days. We use Dreamweaver to design the webpage. We are not that familiar with this software. However, fortunately we got a lot of assistants from our teachers. Our teachers always helped us solve problems whenever we had. As we use Dreamweaver more, we get used to it. Hopefully, working as team is the most efficient way to get the work done.
