Interview with Ms. Ming-mei Kang

Ms. Ming-mei Kang used to work in the garment industry. Their products were mainly sold to shopping stores and night markets. The old factory used to have about 10 workers. Since his family was not rich, he became an apprentice after primary school and started to work in family workshop since 15. He worked in this industry for about 50 years until he was 6 years old. He worked about 8 to 9 hours a day. He mainly made jackets and T-shirts. They were easier to make then now due as the cloth then was softer. She changed several garment factories. The first boss was harshest but she worked there for the longest time. The second boss was nice but she did not work there for long. The grandma made clothes for money, but now she learns patchwork for fun.

Our thoughts: I think it is very interesting to know the background of grandma’s experiences. She said she changed several factories until she found one that was suitable to her. If it were me, I would have run out of patience and given up. But now grandma is old and no longer work. That’s why she came to learn patchwork.
