President Cheng’s father studied chemistry engineering, and used work mainly as a subcontractor who didn’t own a brand name. President Cheng had wanted to found his own brand since he was 24 years old, and his father encouraged him to give it a try. After completing military service, President Cheng left his father’s company, Shang Wang Enterprise, and in 1984 created  the brand Atunas to use for distribution, and in 1986 founded what was then known as Ojean Corporation for the more specific purpose of distribution of Atunas products. The name Ojean is derived from the word “ocean,” a word symbolizing natural vitality itself and congenial to the company’s prospect of being as healthy and environmentally friendly as can be.
Ojean Corporation primarily distributes Atunas products (surfboards, kickboards, life jackets, assorted swimming goods, etc.), manufactures backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and Gore-Tex outdoor wear and what not, and imports as assigned agent foreign brands.
President Cheng made it a rule to reach out to his potential clients with sincerity and perseverance, and so when visiting individual retailers, he would always memorize the name of the retail shop as well as the names of the owners’ relatives, approach with charitable humility, and voluntarily check to see if any retailers needed their stock replenished. Many retailers were very happily willing to work with President Cheng, and would even in private consult him for advice on promoting goods. After his visits, President Cheng would always leave a thank-you card expressing his gratitude for the time allotted him. He believed that “with greater humility is gained greater knowledge.”
