A. Presentation before the Field Trip (2013.12.31)

Today is a special day, why? We, Yan Bo-Lin, Zhang Ya-Zhu, Li Yi-Zhen and Li Yang-Jun, would go with third grade students for the field trip. We didn't go for fun, we were going to be the guides for Class 3-Bing. Before the trip, we went to their classroom to give an introduction about military ruins and trails in Cheng-Kung Office Park. All the students paid attention on our presentation. They got really excited about Quiz & Reward time, many of them tried to answer the questions!

In the beginning, we played a clip of Green Camp Introduction
Introducing military ruins and trails
Explaining the differences between Cheng-Kung Office Park and Chengong Hill Training Center
Quiz & Reward time

C. The Plants Guides-Experience through five senses.

All of us gathered in the entrance of Forest Trail. Yang-Jun introduced the common plant, Spanish Needles.

The group arrived at the wooden path, we introduced them Formosa Acacia, in Chinese, it called "Xiang Si" tree. We gave them "Xiang Si" beans, wanting to tell them "Xiang Si" bean is not the seed of "Xiang Si"tree, the bean is actually the seed of Red Sandal Wood. The audience got excited when they got the beans

Took photos on the wooden path!

Introducing Lagerstroemia subcostata kochne, which trunk is smooth and slippery. It's also called "Monkey's trouble." We let the audience touch the trunk.

We were pouring some water on the leaves to differentiate Taro and Giant Upright Elephant Ear.

The audience concentrated on Yi-Zhen's guiding to Shell Ginger. They were rubbing the leaves and smelling them. Wow! It smells nice! No wonder people use the leaves to wrap Zongzi. Because of the Shell Ginger's scent, which makes Zongzi more tasty!

The fruit of Formosan Gum is symphoricarpos, which has sweet perfume; Teak's young branches are square. Plants are magical, isn't it!
We showed the laminated leaves of Orchid tree, Butterfly Tree and Hong Kong Orchid tree for observation and comparing. The final stop was Animal Farm. The audiences were happy, they picked some Guinea Grass and fed the cows. The area is too enjoyable to get away!

D. Guiding Military Facilities

We brought the kids to the places to show the harmony between military buildings and nature. While we were explaining, the kids were focused and actively asking questions! They are so concentrated.

We played some interactive games with kids at the Bug's Grass Ground during the break time.

We visited Wood Chips Trail. By the trail, there are Teak, Shell Ginger, Blush Macaranga and an "animal." It looks like moose yet actually a Camphor tree. The kids couldn't find it out at first gaze. In the end, Yan Bo-Lin, Zhang Ya-Zhu, Li Yi-Zhen and Li Yang-Jun took photos with students from Class 3-Bing at the trail. We got along with kids very well; all of us are responsible guides! Also, Thank teacher Huang Zhi-Cheng, he followed our group, helping us add details which we missed during guiding.

E. Growing Confidence

Teacher Huang always believes that we can make it. He said we were doing great today! We were glad to hear that!

After the field trip, kids from Class 3-Bing wrote 3-paged assignments to describe what they learned. We are very touched, and we almost cry. Finally, our training and practice last week pay off!

F.Review

Li Yi-Zhen

Today we were going to guide for Class 3-Bing. Teacher Huang also came to see our performance. Luckily, our audiences are good and find. First, we walked to Forest Trail, and then we stayed at Bugs' Grass Ground and played for a while. After that, every of us had smooth guiding, and good interaction with the kids. Teacher Huang said, "Good job! You are doing great today. "For us, it's such a relief from teacher's compliment.

Zhang Ya-Zhu

I went to Cheng-Kung Office Park today to do my first guiding with other three team members. Our group has 8 kids. At the beginning, we were all nervous, making random mistakes. Then it's my turn, I was trying to explain the origin of the sentry buildings, unexpectedly, the kids had no ideas about it, they didn't know the military. Thanks to my partners' help so that we can move on!
After visiting the military buildings, we stayed at Bugs' Grass Ground for ten minutes. We played some outdoor activity games, such as "Red Light, Green Light", "Hawk Catching the Young Chicks" and "Freeze Tag." Soon, we gathered all the kids, letting them go to the restroom. Sometimes I forgot the details or audience couldn't understand my explanation, teacher Huang would add more information for me to develop understanding to the kids. When we were guiding military buildings, we received positive reaction from the kids. They can answer all the questions. I think they must be very concentrated!
Time flies, the guiding was ended after two hours. I appreciate that teacher Yuan, the teacher of Class 3-Bing, can give us this opportunity. I also thank the kids' cooperation so that we wouldn't be distracted by unexpected behaviors. Additionally, I learned how hard to be guide, I realize that I need more improvements. Moreover, I encourage everyone to be a guide, which is a meaningful job. I will respect any guiding job in the future.
