Old Story - Living Style
Dachen Island was rocky, lack of fertile lands and water system, so there was minor agriculture development. Inhabitants on the other hand living on fishery instead due to rich fish resource surrounding the island. 80% percent of population lived as fishermen.

Other than fishery, inhabitants also worked on related jobs, such as weaving nets and baskets to support fishery. Women and children also gathered vegetables, clams, and weaving hair nets, beads and needlework as side jobs, so most of inhabitants are both fishermen and merchants.


Dachen Island was surrounded by water. People transported themselves via roads on land and seas. There was also no airport on the island, so only seaplanes were available. The first course flied to Dachen Island was in 1954 by TransAsia's "Blue Swan" sea plants but was limited to officials and VIPs, The island was not large but lack of transportation or proper roads. Few roads were built but they were for military usage, so normal inhabitants usually walk to get where they wanted to go.


Sea transportation is the most used way to travel. The harbor became the window to the island, and boats are heavily used.
