Introduction
The increasing numbers of the young in Longqi District seeking non-farming occupations contributes severe out-migration. Owing to the decline in the population, this district can simply be divided into two area, that is, Longhan and Longxing. Longxing area is located to the southeast of Longqi District. This district is composed of four villages, namely, Neopu, Longchuan, Daping, Shishicao. Among those villages, the name of Neopu means “oxen on the grasslands” in Chinese. In ancient time, when mainlanders firstly moved here, most residents kept oxen to plough fields. During off-seasons in farming, groups of cattle were grazing on the rich grass. Consequently, the village “Neopu” got its name for this special scenery. What is more, it is so fascinating to explore the evolution of Neopu where was full of white chalky soil but now is the best place to demonstrate soil and water conservation and to serve the needs of tourism and recreation and teaching.
Motivation
It is well known that mudstone in Taiwan is mainly distributed in three areas: southwestern area, Hualien-Taitung area, and Hengchung Peninsula (as shown in pictures below). Unlikely, how come could Neopu’s badland become wide grassy plain?
If you think Neopu is full of white chalky soil, you will be impressed with its greenness coming as a complete surprise. Thanks to specialists’ help, Neopu has been changed from being infertile to being so green. Numerous plants flourish here. What is more, with a calm lake surrounded by chalky cliffs, Neopu looks like a beautiful valley described in Chinese martial arts and chivalry novel. You hardly imagine that it was deadly infertile. Neopu now is one of the most famous attractions and serves as one of the best place for hiking in Tainan.

Take National Freeway No. 3 and exit Guanmiao Interchange. Turn left and proceed on Provincial Highway No. 19 A Wenheng Rd.to Sec. 2, Nanxiong Rd. . Turn left and proceed on County Highway No. 182 from Guanmiao Dist. to Longqi Dist., Neimen Dist., and Qishan Dist. Note: "Neopu" This place names, is due to the early ancestors came to Taiwan to settle this point, most of the tenants Jie cattle to help land reclamation, when slack Caopu cattle grazing in the mountains, forming a very special local scene, so therefore named.
