Summary
In order to preserve the cultural heritage of Hamasen in Kaohsiung city,
Takao Renaissance Association did the research of Xin Bin Street and
interviewed the residents. It turned the oral description to the transcription.
The issues can be belief, life, and local food. There are 4 chapters
in the book describing the local history, culture, and religion with
local stories.
In addition to pictures of Hamasen, there are many pictures and documents
provided by residents. These record the memory of the local residents
for people to recall.
Excerpt
In the late Japanese colonial period, Hamasen became a base for industrialization,
coupled with a series of buildings and streets. It made Hamasen full
of crews, workers, and businessman and became an emerging community.
Workers in Hamasen are divided into two parties, “Ponho” and "Tainan
North Gate". Initially. Young workers from other places looked
here as a temporary working place. However, as time flies, they and
the following generations became the residents.

In 2012/3, there was an announcement from the Kaohsiung City Covernment informing that Hamasen’s old streets were planned to be reformed. It gave a 3-month move out notice on one building to ask the residents move out. However, the residents refused to accept the policy. They showed the determination of preservation. Finally, the government gave a delaying demolition permit.

The founder of the meatball shop, Chang A Be, was born in a house at
the foot of Chia Mountain. He is the local resident. His parents were
immigrants from Zhejiang. He got a loading job when there was a peak
in shipment loading and uploading. However, the shipping volume in Kaohsiung
harbor went down. Mr. Chang changed his career. Therefore, the first
meatball shop in Hamasen was founded.

Internship observation of Takao Renaissance Association
This chapter describes a Taiwan University student’s, Lee Yo Chin’s
opinions towards Takao Renaissance Association from his experience of
being an intern there. There are two problems waiting to be solved:
First, manpower and financial shortage. Second, the lack of interaction
between association and the residents. The association will use the
internet and social media for promotion in order to get the donations
from the society. The second problem will be solved by understanding
residents’ opinions and urging people to join association’s operation.
The association will help people to tell the story of the place.
