The topic we chose
for this Cyberfair project was to get to know our neighboring business:
“San-Hao Rice,” so we worked around the topic, put our heads together,
and thought about how we could accomplish our mission using the resources
we have.
On our way to
accomplishing our mission, we had to rely on team work, and I learnt a
lot about progress, planning, and time management. Aside from getting to
know the business culture of “San-Hao Rice,” I also found myself to be
much improved.

When we
interviewed the owner of San-Hao, I discovered that he wasn’t as serious
as I thought he would be, because it was he himself that gave us a tour
of his factory, and told us some of their secrets! All of the products at
San-Hao are the real thing as well as being completely trustworthy.
The owner
explained in great detail the entire production process of rice from
planting to packaging, and brought us into the factory to see for
ourselves. After we entered the factory, I discovered that the machinery
was like nothing I had imagined, they were so complicated and powerful!
The encouragements Chairman Chen gave us were all very important, we not
only need to remember everything he said, but also try to put them into
practice.

In my
participation of the Cyberfair project, my biggest inspiration came from
the importance of team work, and how that can be achieved only through
good communication and well organized meetings and progress. As a team
leader, my mission was to lead my teammates and coordinate their tasks,
this gave me good experience and I feel I have learnt a lot.
As for my own time
management, I learnt how to complete a task more efficiently, how to
arrange and execute my plans, to accept challenges and use them to
advantage, so that I am discovering my own potential all the while; I’d
like to thank my classmates for their cooperation and assistance, I have
really learnt a lot!

After participating
in the Cyberfair project, I feel so rewarded, and am particularly
impressed by the business theory of “San-Hao Rice.” “San-Hao Rice” is
managed by a family of five brothers, who started their business with two
rice packing factories located on either shore of the Chuoshui River.
In their nearly thirty years of hard work, they have continually invested
professionalized equipment and technologies for research and development,
production, management as well as marketing, and all of it has paid off
into their success of today.
I feel really
touched by their business theory of professionalism and insistence, and
hope that I will by guided by these theories in the future.

The one thing I learnt
the most in this past period of time was computing skills. I used to know
only the slightest basics of computer and word processing skills, and
actually thought myself pretty good.
In our process of
interview and post-production, I not only learned how to use a digital
camera, but also how to process images on the computer and to produce a
basic webpage. It was so incredibly rewarding to see the work I had done
appear on the computer, and I’d like to thank my teachers for giving me
patient advise, as well as for letting me learn a lesson in not being
“over-confident.”

My participation
in the Cyberfair project has taught me a valuable lesson in “cherishing my
blessings.” I used to see the rice fields near my home and school, but
because they are common sights in the countryside, to not think much of
them. However, after I visited the “San-Hao Rice” Enterprise, I became truly touched by
their business theory and their perseverance in producing superior
quality rice.
I learnt that the
small grains of rice we see or eat are available to us only because
countless people have given their hard work and uncompromising
perseverance. I learnt to respect the seemingly unexceptional “common
people,” and furthermore to feel pride in my hometown—Chutang Township.
Now, it is no longer just another common farming village, but is the
birthplace of the rice that provides us with nourishment!

In this Cyberfair
project, I was responsible for the interviews. To tell the truth, I was
very much scared of this task at the beginning, because I felt that I
wasn’t very brave, and was worried I couldn’t do the job well.
But after I had
gone through the entire interview progress, I gradually conquered my
fears with encouragement from my teacher, and began to speak more
fluently and become more relaxed. Then my teacher told me she intended
that I should take this opportunity to test my courage, and by doing so,
to grow and learn. So this series of activities not only provided a
chance for me to get to know my hometown better, but also to conquer my
inner fears, and I feel so proud to have accomplished both!

About the gigantic
buildings sitting just outside of our campus—“San-Hao Rice” Enterprise, I
only used to think that their buildings were large, many trucks went past
on their behalf; that farmers were hard working, busy people with lots of
dirt on their clothes. Yet, I really didn’t know anything about what
“San-Hao Rice” and the farmers really do.
After our teacher
brought us to visit the enterprise and see for ourselves, I finally
understood the business culture of San-Hao Rice, how they distribute
their products, and how difficult it was to manage a good business. When
we visited the home of the winner of the “Superior Quality Rice” National
Award, Mr. Tsai, we learnt even more about what farmers’ jobs are like,
that farming is as much a science as we thought only scientists had to
follow. All of this caused me to feel the greatest respect for the
farmers of our country, as well as feeling greatly rewarded for having
learnt so many things.

My participation in
the Cyberfair project has not only allowed me to further understand the
industry of my hometown, I also gained much in learning the knacks of
“team work.”
In the past, I
used to think that it was easier for me to work by myself, and I wasn’t
very willing to communicate with others in order to accomplish any tasks.
This time, when we were doing interviews and producing our project
reports, I realized that I could never do so much alone, that
communication wasn’t as hard as I imagined once I’d tried doing it with
my classmates, that all I need to do was open my mind, and not only jobs
well done but friendships also were my reward!

The interview
subject we had for this Cyberfair project was “San-Hao Rice,” and because
San-Hao Rice is situated right next to our school, as well as from a wish
to learn a little more about the industry of our hometown, I decided
right away to join in the Cyberfair project.
In the process of
our research there were several times I wanted to give up, because the
research became harder and harder and more tiring, but I carried on with
encouragement from my teammates. In the past, I knew little about how
computer programs worked, but in the process of working on the project, I
learned how to design a webpage, as well as the importance of copyright.
I’m glad I decided to stay on, because I feel I have gained a lot from
this experience. Now I think that the Cyberfair project’s true purpose is
to teach team members mutual trust, mutual understanding, and to learn
more about our hometown! I feel really rewarded for having taken part in
the Cyberfair project, and hope to do it again!
