1. How’s your first impression of this place?
Chieh Hao: It’s my first time here. It’s special because it’s hard to find an architecture or place like here in Taipei city or Taipei county. This old artitecture is surrouned by old trees and some of them are over seventy years of age.《Top

2. What are you here for?
Chieh Hao: In the beginning, it’s all about my research. Afterwards, I found my grandfather lived here and died. Therefore, people who have this history of disease in their family are possible to encounter this.《Top

3. When was this place established?
Chieh Hao: The hospital was established in the Japanese governed era back in 1930. All the information is accessible from the internet. 《Top

4. In the process of assistance, is there any difficulty for students who come here for help?
Chieh Hao: A lot. The first is the traffic problem. Students need to take a bus to come here and it takes a lot of time. Second is the historical problem that discriminate the leprocy patients. This is hard to explain because people don’t seem to have the background knowledge about its history. This is our main purpose to solve these misunderstandings by creating a community school. Leprocy has long been exist in history. When people are afflicted, it’s a challenge to face it.《Top

5. Do you fear the patients when you first come here?
Chieh Hao: Yeah, at first, just like any of you. Though it didn’t occur to me because I’m not fully aware of it. I just know the disease from its name, literally. It seems like people are having neurological problems, but actually it’s the cultural discrimination that misundestand the disease. Only after the field survey can we realize how they feel. As long as you get along with these people here, you’ll feel they’re no difference to your grandma or grandpa.《Top

6. You are the handcraft lecturer, what do you teach in the class?
Chieh Hao: Right! The name may sound more professional than it really is. You can see many wrecks because it’s been tore down many times before. This has caused some painful experience to people who visited their family members here. Therefore, I’d like to transfer that emotion by using those wasted wood or meterial into something new. To give a new life to this place as a symbol as “rebirth.”《Top

7. The instructors here, do they got paid?
Chieh Hao: I’m not sure if you pay attention to other social events, ie. San-Yin tribe. It’s an obriginal tribe under the San-Yin Bridge. You’ll feel something once you be there. Actually, Le-Sen has plenty of resourses, it’s such a beautiful building. With so many volunteer workers, they are not being paid to do so. Everyone provides free service because they all have one single goal__to make this place a better place. Compared with obriginal people who have nothing, I think, comparitively speaking, we are happy. 《Top

8. We saw some wooden board in the sanatorium. Are these sculptured by you? Why you want to do this?
Chieh Hao: Yes, I sculptured that. Actually, the plate is designed by my father. We went through some difficulties when some dorms were torn apart. Therefore, to let people know these buildings, I made these plates of notification. We wish that Losheng is a public place. I use woods in Losheng sanatorium to make these wooden boards. Theses are the gifts that I sent to the sanatorium.《Top
