No Pudu and No Animal Sacrifices

Yuan-Shuai Temple asked Buddhist monks to pray for blessings.

One Chanting sutra group which is formed by locals sang for god's birthday.

All members of committee participated in the ceremony.

Believers or devotees offers flowers or fruits as sacrifices.

At gods' birthday, there are hundreds of flowers or fruits on altars.

Many volunteers helped decorate the altar.

Pudu(a universal commemoration of the Ghost Festival in the Lunar 7 Month)

Every Lunar 7 month, mostly temples in Taiwan will hold 'Pudu', they offer animal sacrifices to worship god, but Yuan-Shuai Temple doesn't hold Pudu.

In 1929A.D., the gods of Yuan-Shuai Temple and the gods of San-Shan-Guo-Wang Temple instructed: "Youchang locals will not hold any ceremony except the two of spring(15th Day of Lunar 6 Month) and autumn(12th Day of Lunar 1 Month). Believers simply offer fruits, tea and joss sticks to pay homage, but can not use animals."

From then on, the temple's ceremony is changed from Taoism into Buddhism.

the two ceremonies of spring and autumn are held to worship locals' own ancestors.

Locals' Gratitude

When we interviewed some believers and shops around the Temple, we asked their opinions on the instruction of worship. It is easy to find the locals give high praises to these gods' kindnesses, the residents even give another name ' Chih-Cai temple(no Pudu; no animal sacrifices temple)' to honor the temple.
