Life: Firefly Because firefly tends to look for its spouse, it gives out light. But some fireflies make an exception, and they won’t give out light. The belly of those male fireflies, which will give out light, has two devices of radiating. On the other hand, those female fireflies only have one device of shinning. These radiating devices are the most noticeable place of the firefly. Unpredictably, when the firefly stops on our hand, we won’t feel very hot or burning.
So far, there are 62 different kinds of known
fireflies, and there’re over 2000 kinds of them in
the world. The mysterious brilliant rays that those
fireflies emit are very magical and eye-catching.
Fireflies are fully matured beetles, which go
through four processes of maturing: ovum, larva,
pupa, and adult. Although their larva could radiate,
female and male adult fireflies can’t. The cell of
radiating is parable to the car’s lamp. And the cell
of the reflecting layer is like the lampshade, which
could concentrate the light that comes from the
radiating cell, and emit it. Hence, although there
are simply small rays of light in the darkness, we
can see it very clearly.
Since fireflies are very extraordinarily rare now, we have to protect them. For they need to live on the pure source of water, we both should reduce the usage of the agricultural insecticide, and forbid the discharging of the family’s or factory’s waste water. It’s our responsibility to provide them a better living space. Only in this way, we can possibility see fireflies at anytime and anywhere in the future. |
