The Importance for Preservation of Water and Soil
Author: Lai, yu chun

If we didn’t preserve our water and soil pretty healthy, once the typhoon comes, we will encounter miserable disasters. That is, we may meet debris flows, and people’s life will be injured by these kinds of debris flows. Thus, it’s very significant for us to conserve our water and soil beforehand. All we have to do is prepare it sincerely and seriously without giving it a casual glance.

There are several methods to preserve the water and soil. What have been written down as following are my recommendations for everybody.

Method One: On has to plant crops on surplus farmlands. The main purpose of it is not only to improve the output of the crop, but also to prevent water and soil from erosion. Basically, our main goal is to utilize the farmland continuously. The most important of all is that we shouldn’t plant those crops which may jeopardize our natural environment. Or else, what we have done will be turned into useless.

Method Two: We should cover the ground with remains of trees or leaves to protect soil from being eroded by raining. Through this way, we can improve the soil, and make it have permeability. In the end, we can use this kind of ground to preserve the water and evade the loss of the soil.

Method Three: To prevent water from losing and to store it, we could modify our landforms through machine or labor. Except this, we can build the sand dam to stop the soil and sand from flowing out; simultaneously, this type of dam can retain the water.

Method Four: One has to plant as many trees as possible. On the one hand, roots of trees can catch the earth without letting it becoming flexible. On the other hand, they can avoid the emergence of the debris flow. And it is so called as one Chinese fable: kill two birds with one stone.

Method Five: Every one of us should neither develop our ground excessively, nor cut down trees relentlessly. These behaviors are very immoral. We should never damage our natural environment simply because of our selfish desire and anticipation.

What have been mentioned above are all practicable methods, which can be put into practice to conserve our water and soil. Consequently, there is one thing which we should keep it in our mind, that is: we should never contaminate our natural surroundings; if not, they will strike back against us.
