Q1: Why was Kuan-Do Nature Park established?
A1. Now we are standing at the junction of Tan-Shui River and Kee-Lung River. The Kuan-Do Nature Park was by Taipei City Government in 1996 through the efforts of many environmental activists. The wetlands have been important stopover grounds for migrant birds. However, with the economic development of the region, the wetlands along Tan-Shui River were severely damaged. Therefore, the establishment of the park was for the protection of the wetlands in Taipei. We should protect the environment of the park, do not litter or make loud noises.

Q2: What are the influences on excessive number of park visitors ?
A2: There are influences for sure. Therefore, we hope the visitors can follow the rules and regulations of the park. For examples, there are restricted zones. The park is mainly divided into four zones, including Main Facility Zone, Key Protection Zone, Outdoor Observation Zone and Ecology Buffer Zone. Among them, the Key Protection Zone is restricted to visitors. Visitors are not allowed to the Ecology Buffer Zone without the guidance of staffs. Also, visitors should have correct attitudes and manners toward environmental protection.

Q3: What migrant birds can we see in Kuan-Do Nature Park?
A3: We can dcategorize them into resident birds and migrant birds. Resident birds are those which live in the same area their whole lives. Migrant birds include winter migrant birds and transit birds  Those spending winters in Taiwan are called winter migrant birds; those make short stopovers in Taiwan are called transit birds. The busiest season of Kuan-Do Nature Park comes after October every year. A flock of teals, ducks, and many friends would come. So you can ask your parents to take you here on holidays.

Q4: How do you take care of the migratory birds in Kuan-Do Nature Park?
A4. Park staff would make both regular and random on-the-spot inspections. They would keep records on the total number of the birds in the park, as well as their living conditions. If there are sick birds, specialists will be sent to take care of them and to find out the cause. If it is because of the polluted water or plant in the park, we will try to improve it as soon as possible so they can spend a good winter here.

Q5: If the weather becomes very cold, for instance, when a cold front comes, can they endure the cold?
A5: Occasionally there are reports about black-faced spoonbills or other birds frozen to death, but generally birds can endure cold because they have downs and feathers which can keep body temperature. Besides, as long as the feathers are not too wet, they can keep birds warm. Therefore, birds would avoid getting their feathers wet. However, when a cold current of air comes, if the wind is too strong, it will influence their flying and make them unable to find food.
