Lukang Old Street, we are coming!

Lukang Old Street is located in Lukang Township, Changhua County, Taiwan, ranging over the whole historical relics area in Lukang Township. Lukang was the most important trade port during the eras under Dutch rule and Qing Dynasty rule. It was prosperous owing to business development. Its development can be traced back to long ago. In 1934, Japanese colonial government engaged in city planning in Lukang, and widened PuChienTien Old Street (now known as Chungshan Road), reconstructing the houses alongside into modern concrete buildings. Roads parallel to it such as Yaolin Street and Putou Street were then remained intact. In 1986, the area was designated as Lukang Historical Reservation Area, becoming the first historical reservation site in Taiwan.

The Old Street includes Yihehsing, Xin-zu Temple, Osmanthus Alley (in front of Lukang City God Temple) and Lukang Assembly Hall, with its full length reaching more than five hundred meters. The stores and their plates in Lukang Old Street are finely reserved. The long Fujian style buildings, with length ranging from forty to seventy meters, is the characteristic architecture during the Qing Dynasty ruled era and early Republic years. The numbers of relics are only fewer than that of Tainan.
