Aficionados of Calligraphy-Appreciation of [Han Yi Jin Chiu] - Feedback regarding the event of the Chinese Calligraphy Society and Friends in Lukang

The live calligraphy activity of "Han Yi Jin Chiu-Chinese Calligraphy Society and Friends in Lukang" was held on September 29, 2019. The instructor led our team members to the "Osmanthus Alley Art Village" to participate in the grand event.

It was already around the time of September equinox, but the temperature still remained high as if we had an Indian summer. The sun continued to release its excessive light and heat. Nevertheless, the calligraphy masters were not a bit affected by the hot weather, and their hearts and minds were as calm as a pool of still water while drawing full attention on their brushwork and showing their profound skills through each stroke with grace. There were 28 calligraphy organizations on the scene with 30 tables prepared for live calligraphy. Famous calligraphers and masters gathered together attracting scholars, critics and friends of the same interest to the event. Our team's interviewee. Ms Huang Wen-Chiung was also invited to perform live calligraphy. The inscription done by Teacher Wen-Chiung was "Shang Shan Ruo Shui" which was to remind and encourage us that the highest level of good deeds is like water which favors all without caring about vanity. She had also written another inscription "Shu Xiang" meaning scholarship as an expectation for us that we as students could be immersed in the world of scholarship, find joy in reading, and continue to carry on lifelong learning.

Among the calligraphers attending the event was a calligraphy master from Liuqiu of Pingtung, who was over ninety years old and was still radiant. The calligraphy master of the Taichung City Calligraphy Society also made a joke of us with an inscription, "Think Rationally". The meaning behind the inscription, which was "to do as told by the teacher", caused a burst of laughter as the calligrapher humorously explained. The mayor of Changhua County, Wang Hui-Mei, who is very concerned about Chinese culture, also came in person to the event and took a group photo with us. Calligraphy is the best cultural asset passed down by our sages, and we sincerely hope from the bottom of our heart to continuously preserve and carry on this precious quintessence.
