Project Elements

    1. How did the research and activity of this Cyberfair project enhance your school learning and course demand?

By this project, we learned more about the ecology around the harbor in Taoyuan and the environmental issue encountered by harbor. Our vision was expanded and we acquired the knowledge. We recognized the importance of harbors to Taiwan and the issues of ecological conservation, protection of ocean and sustainable development.

    2. How did your activities and research for this Cyberfair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In Taoyuan, it not only actively enhances the urban competitiveness by economy, but also is devoted to the integration between culture and industry. Yongan Fishing Harbor is an example. It combines Hakka culture and the features of harbor. Besides, Yongan Fishing Harbor is the only Hakka harbor in Taiwan. As local people in Taoyuan, we should recognize the fact. The government spends plenty of money promoting the culture. It will be a pity that the future generation can only see the historical relics from books. Thus, we selected this issue and explored the ecological conservation in the neighborhood. Cultural inheritance is likely. However, sustainable development of environment is challenging. Once the ecology is destroyed, it can hardly be recovered. These are the points for our reflection and discussion.

    3. What were the skills you acquired?

When making the web page, we have acquired new knowledge which was not presented in class, such as new layout design and some web page effects. We learned to edit the photos. When visiting Yongan Fishing Harbor, we attempted to plan complete itinerary. Besides, when creating the form, we learned to develop specific questions.

    4. What were the ideas and methods of teamwork you have practiced?

In the project, we recognized the importance of teamwork. Everyone had his (her) specialty. At the beginning, with work division, everyone could demonstrate their specialty by fulfilling the work. In the group discussion, we listened to each other and finally we presented the project with the most appropriate method.

    5. How did you combine this project with the demand of your school or class?

It is our first project and the classmates discussed the topic in groups. When we encountered the difficulty of the location, the teachers would help us. Group members had different project making competition. Thus, by work division, everyone could show their ultimate specialty. Group discussion was not common in class. Thus, by this project, everyone could discuss with each other and cultivate problem-solving competence. The topic was based on severe environmental issue in Taiwan. Thus, we could recognize the problem and ponder on the solution. With environmental consciousness, we can protect the environment of Taiwan.

    6. What were your roles in the neighborhood of your school?

Taoyuan Municipal Zhong Li Commercial Senior High School has an area of 3.3 ha, located at the center of Jhungli City, Taoyuan County. It is 6 minutes from Zhongli Station, 45 minutes from Taipei City, 20 minutes from Taoyuan International Airport, and 15 minutes from HSR Cingpu Station. National freeway 1, National freeway 3 and Expressway 66 pass through northern and southern Taiwan. Transportation is convenient. However, there are usually traffic jams in peak hours. In the neighborhood, there are many elementary schools. It takes only 15 minutes to walk to SOGO Department Store. Next to the school, it is well-known night market of Jhungli.

    7. What has been the impact of your project on your community?

By Cyberfair project, we learned the skills to construct web page, generalize data and cooperate with each other. We were not familiar with web page making and thus we had to learn from the basic skills. Teachers in school taught us how to construct the web page. By walking out of the campus, we approached the related activities of the visit. Through this project, we hoped that people can recognize the importance of environment and ecology. Teamwork was extremely important. Everyone shared the work. Without cohesion, we could never accomplish this enormous project. Besides teamwork and organization of data, we conducted questionnaire survey and learned to cope with various kinds of people in the society. After this experience, we will be more familiar with similar activities. Although it was sometimes fatigued during the process, it was worth it!

    8. How did local people assist with or voluntarily participate in the project?

We randomly interviewed the tourists regarding the characteristics of the harbor. On holidays, people can visit Yongan Fishing Harbor, rent bicycles at Green Tunnel and walk on the beach. On the other side of the harbor, they can eat in the restaurant with raw food. Recently, in front of green tunnel, Go-Kart track is constructed. It is easily accessible by bus.

    9. Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises

In this project, I recognized the spirit of teamwork. Some members were responsible for taking photos, some were in charge of web page and some managed the journal of work. With work division, everyone contributed their specialty. It thus facilitated the project.
