Description of Our Community
Tamsui-Xinyi Line is a metro line run by Taipei Metro. It
connects Tamsui District and Xinyi District and there are
thirty stations along this line. Shilin Junior High School
is located near Shilin Station. It takes only eight minutes
to walk to Shilin MRT Station from Shilin Junior High
School, and within 15-minute walk, you can get to Jiantan
MRT Station from the school. These two stations are on the
Tamsui-Xinyi Line of Taipei Metro, which is also known as
Red line.
Red line of Taipei Metro can take tourists to many famous
scenic spots in Taipei, such as Beitou Hot Spring,Shilin
Night Market and Taipei 101. Taipei Rapid Transit
Corporation at Shuanglian Station,Operation Control Center
at Taipei Train Station, and Beitou Depot at Beitou Station,
which is the biggest train maintenance and repair center,
are also on Red line. We can explore the local
characteristics along the metro line by walking or taking
the MRT as well as learn more about the operation and
maintenance of Taipei Metro.

Summary of Our Project
Mass
Rapid Transit (MRT) is a convenient traffic tool for
Taipei citizens. However, MRT is not only a way of
transportation, it is also a starting point for people to
get to know distinguished places where there are local
specialties and cultural activities in Taipei. Through
information collection and field visits, our exploration
starts with the development of Taipei Metro. Then we delve
into MRT stations with unique design and the tourist
attractions nearby. We also look into MRT-featured
activities, for instance, MRT Street Dance Festival and
Fantasy Market (Zhongshan Market). Furthermore, Taipei Metro
provides considerable resources in learning. There is an
exhibition of the MRT development at Taipei Rapid Transit
Corporation, a chance to learn about the operation at Beitou
Depot and an interactive Emergency Evacuation Center for
visitors to experience how to evacuate through emergency at
Beitou Resort. We hope that by planning a jaunt and
providing ways to take the MRT, you can experience the
colorful and energetic life in Taipei.

Our Computer and Internet Access
Our
school lab provides computers and internet for us to search
for informations on the topic. On holidays, we use our
computers at home to organize materials. Line, facebook, and
emails are useful and time-saving media for our teamwork.

Problems We Had To Overcome
We
spent a considerable time working on the project website.
The major challenge we had was to arrange the timetable for
the visits. Our team members were from different classes and
grades, and it was not easy for us to set the mutual
visiting schedule because at school, everyone had different
classes and school activities to attend; after school, some
members had to go to cram school or participate
extracurricular activities. Sometimes, we paid visits during
school hours, and in order not to be left behind class
schedules, we needed to borrow notes from our classmates and
asked our teachers for help when we had problems with our
homework after visiting. Besides, we needed to collaborate
with each other to collect and arrange all the information.
Some members had trouble sorting data or typing, but their
ability had been improved through this project.

Our Project Sound Bite
When doing the project,
we visited the Headquarter of Taipei Rapid Transit
Corporation, Beitou Depot for train repair and maintenance,
Operation Control Center for train dispatch and emergency
handling and several MRT stations. In addition to learning
to appreciate the architectural design of MRT stations, we
also visited the adjacent areas around the stations as well
as participated in the activities held by the MRT
corporation and creative product markets on holidays. We
leaned that MRT was not only a convenient traffic tool but
also a way to experience a variety of urban cultural
activities.
