Kunqiu and Snake Island

Kunqiu belongs to costal terrain. Most villagers moved out in 1970s and 1980s. It is now a part of Xiqiu village. There is a beach and Snake Island beneath Kunqiu, and they are both main spots that attract tourists. People can see charming sunset at the white beach, also can observe migrate bird for the winter on Snake Island.

Snake Island is actually a line of four reef islands winding through the sea like a snake. Another explanation for the name is that the water entering and flowing from the sea-eroded terrain in front of the main peak of Snake Island resembles the flicking tongue of a snake. Snake Island is near to Xiju Island, in old days people could walk into the sea to harvest shellfish at low tide here, but now this area is part of the tern preserve in Juguang Township, people might have a date with "the mythical bird of Matsu – Chinese Crested Tern" in summer.
