Yu-Tsai Shuochang Class – Afterthoughts

After a semester of shuochang class, the Original Artsy Shuochang Posse invited homeroom teachers and students of middle grade Yu-Tsai classes to share their thoughts on learning shuochang. We want to know the effect of learning shuochang on them.

Afterthoughts

Third Grade Class Zhi - Chen, Wei-Zhong

I think joining the art of shuochang class has been fun because we are able to practice clappers while improving our postures and facial expressions. It does not matter which type of shuochang I learn because each of them is fun, and I’m able to learn something from it. I think the school can hold cross talks competition in the future, and this will make it more fun and interesting.

Third Grade Class Zhi - Zhu, Yu-An

I enjoy Ms. Li’s shuochang class very much. After taking this class, my articulation got better, and I feel more confident. Even though I sometimes hit myself in the hand by my own clapper, Ms. Li would always encourage me, “You just need more practice, and you will get better.”

Third Grade Class Ren - Ou-Yang,Le-En

People used to say that I mumble a lot. They thought I had a boiled egg hidden in my mouth when I talk. After taking the art of shuochang class, my articulation got much better, and people stopped commenting about my mumbling. I feel good about myself, and I also felt a sense of accomplishment.

Third Grade Class Ren - Wang, Yi-An

I like cross talks best in the art of shuochang class because every time Ms. Li did a demonstration for us, her facial expression would always be different. Ms. Li always gave us a chance to practice on stage so we would all get better.

Fourth Grade Class Zhi - Ou, Hui-Lun

I learned tongue twisters, cross talks, storytelling, and cross talks duo this semester. In the process, my articulation got better, and people no longer have a hard time understanding what I am talking about. I hope I can continue learning the art of shuochang so I can express myself as clearly as Ms. Li could.

Fourth Grade Class Zhi - Huang, Pei-Pei

I’ve learned a lot this semester. Every time we got stuck on stage, Ms. Li would lend a helping hand to encourage us so we could all get better and feel more confident about ourselves. During class time, Ms. Li always teaches us in a fun and relaxing manner. For example, during her demonstrations, she would put on a lot of facial expressions to make us laugh.

Fourth Grade Class Ren - Wang,Zhao-Yang

I think cross talks duo is very special because there are lots of jokes in it. For example, the performers have to put on hair braids and facial stickers, and there is another type of cross talks duo where one performer stands behind the other. In tongue twister, I learned to articulate clearly, stay poised on stage, and keep my voice loud and clear for the audience. I have learned a lot this semester, and I want to thank Ms. Li for it.

Fourth Grade Class Ren - Zhan, Xin-Yu

After finishing the art of shuochang class, I have learned a lot of new skills and knowledge. We are like a sponge, and we keep on taking in whatever the teacher throws at us. My new-learned knowledge and skills made me a smarter and more confident person. I want to thank Ms. Li for everything.

Words for Ms. Li

Third Grade Class Zhi - Zhu, Yu-An

I hope Ms. Li can keep teaching tongue twisters because I want to learn a song called ‘Nunchakus’ by Jay Chou. I also hope we could watch more videos in class so I can learn from other people to make up for my shortcomings.

Third Grade Class Zhi - Zhang, Qian

I hope Ms. Li can teach us how to play a seven-piece clapper and do a tongue twister because I saw students in shuochang class playing a seven-piece clapper like magic, and that made me want to learn it even more. I also hope Ms. Li could show us more shuochang videos.

Third Grade Class Ren - Wang, Xiang-Xian

I signed up for shuochang extracurricular class this semester because I like to perform, and I also want my performance to get better. I want to learn more about shuochang so I can create my own fun and interesting stories.

Third Grade Class Ren - Wang, Yi-An

I hope Ms. Li could teach us more cross talks because it is so interesting. Every time I watch a cross talks performance, the performers always make the audience laugh, and I want to make people laugh and bring them happiness.

Fourth Grade Class Zhi - Lin,Li-Tao

In this semester’s classes, there were a few occasions where we were asked to perform on stage, and I got really nervous. But after going on stage several times, all the nervousness went away. I hope next time Ms. Li can invite a few students to perform on stage at a time so we won’t feel so nervous.

Fourth Grade Class Zhi - Ou, Hui-Lun

I hope Ms. Li could teach us more on tongue twister because it can make our tongues more agile. So when we speak, we won’t stammer, and we can articulate more clearly and feel better about ourselves.

Fourth Grade Class Ren - Wu,He-Tai

I want to thank Ms. Li for teaching us the fun and interesting shuochang. We learned how to make the audience enjoy our performance. I hope next semester Ms. Li can teach me how to talk so I will make them happy, not angry.

Fourth Grade Class Ren - Zhan, Xin-Yu

Dear Ms. Li, “I did not know what shuochang was in the beginning. After attending your class, I started to like shuochang, and I’ve also learned a lot about it. You always teach us in a fun and relaxing manner, and when we make mistakes on stage, you would correct our mistakes patiently, so we could have more chances to practice and make ourselves better. Thank you for teaching me this semester. I have learned a lot, and I have become a braver and more confident girl.”
