Project Elements

1.How did your activities and research for this Cyberfair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
A.Humanity and Sympathy
"Mutual cooperation" and "sympathy" are the good deeds that our teachers and parents frequently refer to in reminding us to carry out, but we aren’t quite clear how we can make it. In this project, we made the interviews with the volunteer moms and teachers. We participated in the counseling activities and growth courses. We learned from them that we can drop the self-perfectionism trying to help our classmates in need of support in learning or in daily life and accompany them to make progress slowly.
B.Information and Technology Education
In the project, from data collecting to creating web pages, we used many digital equipments and computer softwares including computers, digital cameras, Photocap… etc. We used a digital camera and a recorder to make sure we kept a complete record of the interviews we made. We added frames to the photos and optimized them with Photocap. We used the computers to organize all the collected data from hard work and turned them into web pages so that more people can share our fruitful results with us.
C.Active Exploration
At school, we learn with textbooks. We know what we are supposed to learn as long as we read the textbook. But we learn from this project that learning is not just from the textbooks, we probably find none from the textbooks. The only thing we can do is searching step by step. At first, we didn’t know what we could do to introduce the counseling volunteers. We had no ideas until we made observation and interviews then we got more data. We met some difficulties such as the small- group counseling activity was near the end as well as the counseling volunteers were not available to receive our interviews. In spite of these setbacks, we solved the problems one by one and completed the project with the assistance of our teachers.
2.What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Cyberfair project?
A.Equipments
(a)Digital camera:taking photos during the group meetings and interviews.
(b)Scanner:scanning all the hand-drawn pictures in order to share them on the webpage
(c)flash drives:storing photos, interview content and web pages.
(d)Desktops:Writing interview content, editing web pages, editing images.
B.Software
(a)DreamWeaver:graphic layout photos web create web pages.
(b)Photocap:managing the photos.
(c)Chrome Browser:Search for data And group Discussion on the Internet.
(d)FileZilla:upload web pages
3.In what ways did you act as “ambassadors” and spokespersons for your Cyberfair project both on-line and in person?
The counseling volunteers are a devoted team. Few students will notice these volunteers not only plan a lot of courses for the students in need but also take many courses to get self-improved. They even take those courses at their own expense. It’s worth imitating their learning strength and vitality strength of the team. At the same time, we share the project and tell our classmates and lower graders what we saw and heard about the counseling volunteers so that they can express their thanks to the counseling volunteers after they have attended the counseling classes.
4.Intellectual Property Rights
This interviews, written texts and photos in the web pages are made or taken by the team. Photos of the interviewees are presented upon their agreement.
The old photographs of the volunteer team are provided by Ms. Mei-show Lin. We rearranged them on the web pages. The resources of the relevant information are indicated on the web pages, too.
5.Influence and Impact
Although being usually hidden in the campus, these enthusiastic volunteers can be seen in some particular occasion in addition to life education or EQ courses.
After in-depth exploration, we found they also give helps to the students in need in every class. They take part in the growth courses designed for them to improve their counseling capability for these students. Some volunteer moms even attend other related courses outside of the school then share their findings with other volunteer moms. It’s rare to see a volunteer team that is full of vitality and learning motivation. We hope, through the project, we can make more people get to know counseling volunteers and their hard work, be grateful for what they have contributed quietly, and encourage more people to join the volunteer team.
6.Discovery, Lessons and Wonders
In the project, we find that we cannot look at things by the surface. It’s just like the case of choosing the counseling volunteers as our project theme. We would think that nothing needed to say about them because they take a course for us only once a week. But the teacher suggested that we could first collect data before we made our decision. We found the counseling volunteers not only help the students in need but also support various school activities, they even take lessons to learn. We got these facts after we explored by and by. So we no longer use previous experience or listen to others to learn, but get the most accurate knowledge by self-exploration step by step.
