This is my second time taking part in the Cyberfair project. Remembered the first time I joined the competition I had the slightest idea of how to present a theme or make a web page. Therefore, we had to work like the wind to meet the deadline. This year I had learned my mistake and made up a schedule and work division list. I am sure with teamwork; we will do well in

this competition.
Fuxing Silo is a historical building located in Changhua County. In order to have a better understanding of the silo’s historical changes, its benefits to the local people, and tourism development, we had three visits there. We interviewed Ms. Weng who fought for Fuxing Silo’s title as a historical building. We also gained a lot of knowledge about Fuxing Silo from the local tour guide. Furthermore, we learned how to mill rice and learned the living habits of our ancestors. We’ve gained so much! Furthermore, we learned from the silo’s volunteer that there were many events held at the silo for the past few years. After our interview with Ms. Weng had I realized that the attaining of the title of a historical building was extremely difficult. From efforts and devotions of those who loved our hometown, I saw their dedication to life.

The Cyberfair project is not only about attaining honor or winning; most importantly it’s about learning to work as a team, what we learned from our trips and interviews, and the ability to make a web page. This is the true meaning and value of the competition.

This is my second time working on the Cyberfair project. I hope we do as well as we did the previous time. It’s a way for us to prove ourselves! I have vast interests. I like new and interesting things and I also like to read. A lot of knowledge I couldn’t get from the text books I had to get from extracurricular books and newspapers.

A historical building naturally would have its own special characteristics and story.Fuxing Silo stood quietly there; spoke of the days of the past. From it I could almost see the hard working farmers of the Japanese Colonial period paying their taxes. I could also see the rich Changhua Plain after the retrocession. The bright smiles of the famers after a good harvest. Fuxing Silo experience the up and downs of its time. Its wrecked buildings were preserved, and after restoration it was given a new life. In fact, it had become a vibrant exhibit space with infinite charm. I hope the Cyberfair project we made can bring more people to get to know Fuxing Silo and treasure this historical building of our hometown.

When I first joined the Cyberfair project, I didn’t know where to start. All I can do was take part in the group discussion with a faint idea of what was going on. Once everybody decided on the theme subject, we started by planning and dividing work among us. I wasn’t very good at working on computers, but with the help of parents and teachers, I gradually grasped the

concept of web page making. When writing progress reports, we had to concentrate really hard and step by step integrate our works together.

The historical building we visited was Fuxing Silo. In order to have a better understanding of the past and present and development process of the silo, we visited the silo many times. During our visits we also interviewed a senior tour guide, local volunteers, and the director of the silo. We also interviewed Ms. Weng who helped in the registering of Fuxing Silo as a historical building. From the words of those we interviewed, I learned a lot about the present and past function of the silo, its architectural design, and the relationship between the silo and the Farmers’ Association. Needless to say, we also visited the Wenwu Temple and Lukang Sugarcane Train close by. Apart from interviewing local personals, we also had an educational trip. We’ve learned a lot. The most important element of the Cyberfair project is teamwork. For efficiency we must have the same goal. I hope we do well on the project and that I’ll have the chance to be a part of it in the future.

In the Cyberfair project this time, I was responsible for the introduction on the origin and history of Fuxing Silo. I remembered the time I went to Fuxing Silo I was full of anticipation. Through Mr. Wu-lang Cheng and Mr. Shih’s careful introduction, I started to have a better understanding of the silo. After the tour, I was in awe of its superb craftsmanship. My heart was

set on unveiling the mystery of its birth.
Through interviews, I gained a deeper understanding of Fuxing Silo. Although we were young and ignorant, when confronted by our unorthodox questions, Ms. Weng was not only charming with a smile on her face; she also led us through the tears and laughter of the silo’s entire restoration process and its present splendor. The former magistrate also mentioned, before the silo was restored, although it was in ruins she saw its original brilliance. Hidden within the wrecked dormer window is an architectural beauty which would make Taiwan proud. After I’ve heard the unknown history of Fuxing Silo, from the milling machine I’ve realized the vibrant side of a historical building. By working on the project on the history of Fuxing Silo had made us stronger. Although it was a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it.

Through Fuxing silo we had a deeper understanding of the rice milling process and I finally realized the saying” we should remind ourselves that the rice at our table didn’t come easy, a strand of thread a piece of cloth were the hard work of many”; since the beginning of time it’s been an unchangeable truth. I believe that the promoting of Fuxing Silo would make it a pride of Changhua and even Taiwan; well-known throughout the world.

It was by chance that I happened to like Fuxing Silo very much. So, I signed up for the Cyberfair project and joined the team. In the beginning I knew little about Fuxing Silo, but after I gained a deeper understanding of the place I realized that it is a very unique architecture. Fuxing Silo was built during the Japanese Colonial period and it had special dormer

window and a three floored hinoki made milling machine. Although it is no longer operating, it had become Lukang’s hottest tourist attraction.

I am glad to have joined the Cyberfair team. Through tours and reading of historical artifacts, it’s as if I was riding on a time machine going back 70 years. I saw the farmers working hard planting, harvesting, paying taxes, and purchasing fertilizer. I saw the paddy rice being transported on the conveyor belt, going step after step through rice milling process, and finally became grains of crystal clear white rice. Under the bright sun, the piles of white rice accompanied the smiling faces of the farmers. Now Fuxing Silo is a representation of the local culture. I think using it as the theme of our Cyberfair project is meaningful. With the cooperation of the team, I believe we can bring out Fuxing Silo’s unique qualities to the people of the world. I had gained a great deal from the Cyberfair project and I hope I will have another chance at taking part in the project again.

Fuxing Silo is the largest and best preserved Japanese silo in central Taiwan up to now. It is also the most afterthought heritage site of the area. As a matter of fact the Silo attracted not only the people of Taiwan, but also many Japanese tourists. It was not until after the guided tour had we realized the significant value of this old silo. There wasn’t a single one of us who wasn’t

in awe of its magnificence!
Ever since we decided to use Fuxing Silo as our Cyberfair project theme, I had been extremely busy. From interviews in the beginning, to afterthought and reports, one can tell that Fuxing Silo is an interesting and fulfilling subject to work on. It is a historical building worthy of our investigating! Through this trip, we heard the earnest words of those who worked hard toward the preserving of Fuxing Silo. It is so heartwarming.

Cyberfair? In the beginning it was an unfamiliar event to me. Fortunately, I had a group of experienced teammates and parents to help me. I would like to thank them for their help and assistance with my research and bear with my lack of experience in the beginning. My research on Fuxing Silo had given me a deeper understanding of it. The passing down of its past

glamour is a big obstacle. I hope with the efforts of the entire county, we will be able to present it gloriously in front of the Nation or even on the international stage.

Su-tian

My name is Su-tian, and I like to swim, and play the violin. It’s my first year at Changsing Junior High School.
I am glad to have taken part in the Cyberfair project. Through interviews, data collecting, and hand-on experiences I’ve gained a deeper understanding of Fuxing Silo’s past and present. By participating in this

project I had realized the meaning of “A pin a day is a groat a year”. Each step we make, we gave it all we got and little by little we accomplished the mission. Looking back at traces of our hard work, gave me a great sense of accomplishment.
The other surprise is that after over ten years of having rice with my meals I finally found out how the hulls of the rice are removed. Ha! Ha! Ha! I am no longer the little idiot!
