The Heritage

The present owner of A-Zen Bakery is the 8th generation. The owner Mr. Cheng said with pride that “My sons and daughters have started to learn baking skills, and they are the 9th generation since the founder set up this bakery. Isn’t this amazing?”

The 6th generation owner, Tsai Cheng, was not pleased enough with the fame the bakery has achieved and decided to send his two sons, Tsung-min Chengand Chen-shan Cheng far away to Japan to learn making Japanese cookies. This overseas study gave them extra resources to make the bakery better, and set a solid foundation for Chan Wei Chan.

Now, the 8th generation owner Mr. Cheng takes a keen interest in steamed buns, pastries, bread, and western cakes, and has put forth efforts in invention and innovation of traditional steamed buns. His endeavors prove worthwhile; now the A-Zen Bakery is swarmed by customers, locals and tourists alike, every day.

Mr. Cheng makes a priority on education and has showed flexibility over his children’s career paths. His eldest son graduated from military school, and the second son took a major in electronic engineering at college. Yet both decided to take up the business of the “A-Zen Bakery” from their father’s hands. His daughter went to Le Cordon Bleu to acquire new skills in western cakes. The Soufflé has become one of the hot items in the bakery ever since she returned from France.

With a core philosophy on hygiene and nutrition, the A-Zen Bakery will keep on making top-quality pastries and cakes that combine the merits of Chinese refreshments and western cakes and delicacies. The 9th generation owners uphold the same spirit and bring the traditional pastry of thousand-year history to a higher plateau.
