I have lived here for 46 years. I know almost everyone here. This place used to be rice field and small villages. Because of the airport, there is limitation for the height of the buildings. The buildings here could not be higher than seven floors in the past. The rule now is that they can’t be higher than twelve floors.

The noise used to be 69DB and decreased to 58DB because of the detour of the runway. But now, because of the cross-strait direct charter flight policy, with the more flights, the noise increases. Therefore, the aeroseal window is a must for us. However, the subsidy we get from the airport is not enough for everyone to install the windows.

We do have several problems caused by living near the airport. First of all is the noise. It sometimes can be more than 105DB. Secondly, the dripped oil on the roof from the engine of the plane is also hard to get rid off. Third but not the last is the shortage of the parking space. Instead of parking in the parking lot provided by the airport, many passengers park their cars in our area while they fly away.

Only certain duty free shops on the Mingchan East road benefit from the internationalization of the airport. The tourists like to buy pineapple cake, tea and Chinese herbal medicine. I am looking forward to the plan call “Beautiful Taipei and the airport shopping district.” It will be announced in the end of the year. We hope the airway can be removed to the military side, but it seems to be very impossible.
