一、Research Motivation:

        The Green Map is called “the Green Life Map” in Taiwan and its abbreviation is “Lui Hwo Map”.  It is a kind of map concerning the nature and cultural environment.  The completion of the map is through the local people.  Green Map Icons are used to designate the meaningful scenic spots in ecology and society.  These scenic spots will make people feel strong connection with the natural environment.  People will be happy and pleased with themselves.  In addition, it will make us find ways to reduce the negative impact to our environment and take up the ecological system knowledge.  Thus the community members will know the health-promotion organizations and institutions.  It can connect the people with the nature and promote the people’s local sense.  (http://www.greenmap.org)  Briefly speaking, the Green Map is a tool for reaching the sustainable future.         

        The so-called “sustainable” means that we shouldn’t use things which will damage the global environment in daily life, work, food, beverage and entertainment.  Besides, we then can ensure the quality of life to our culture, races and the generations in the future.  

        Nowadays the Green Map System is an eco-cultural movement.  A completion of the Map stands for the involvement of the localized knowledge, movements and responsibilities.  It just accords with the socail learning area to combine the four basic ideas “survival, living, life and existence”.  Thus we can merge this lesson into the learning activities of the social learning area. 

        On account of the above ideas and the Remote Digital Aid Project from  E-Service Volunteer of National Changhua University of Education, it inspired our principal Mr. Chang Jei-ju and the dean Mr. Juo Shuin-de to participate in the Cyber Fair on environment issue. 

        Hopefully we candemonstrate the digital research result with the spirits and ways of the Green Map through plans, participation in the survey activities on natural and ecological study, local customs and conditions or feelings of the people, combining the collective observation of the parents, teachers and students, exploring and recording the ecological and cultural feelings of our campus and community.  Further more we hope our students will know far more about the local and natural environment of TaChu Village.  We’d like to cultivate our children to become the green seeds for subsoiling ecological environment and local education.       

二、 Research Purpose

1.      To know and understand the usages of the Green Map.  (Cognition)

2.      To cultivate the attitude to think highly of the global environment.  (affection)

3.      To know and make use of icon signals to read every kind of the Green Map.  (Cognition and Technique)

4.      To make use of on-line surfing the Green Maps of the other countries.  (Skills)

5.      To develop global perspective through the learning of the Green Map (affection)

三、  Research Methods

1.      To collect related information on-line.

2.      To read the books about the Green Map.

3.      To study and visit:  The seed-teacher training of the Green Map,  visiting Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness and participation in the cyber digital afforestation project.

4.      Group discussion and conversazione.

5.      To invite the professionals and scholars to school for counselling.

四、  The Result and Discussion of the Research

1.      The teachers and students know further about the local and natural environment of TaChu Village through the topic research proceeding.

2.      To understand and make use of the meanings and icons of the Green Map.

3.      To understand that the local historical remains and the preservation of the ecology is of great urgency.

4.      To know clearly about making use of the Green Map for developing the sustainable idea globally.

5.   To develop the natural ecological and cultural feelings in the local campus and the community outward by digital green mapmaking activities.

五、Suggestions and Reflections 

1.   The study is just a beginning.  We need to keep observing and researching and then we can know further about the natural ecology and the local feelings of the local campus and the community.  Therefore we will keep tracking and recording.

2.Through the assistance of the class PTA and Parents Association, the people of the community can pay more attention to make the Green Map together.

3.Gradually I found out through the research procedure with the students that the so-called teacher-students relationship is vague.  The students ask the questions naively, share enthusiastic and try hard to solve the problems.  As I am used to playing a role of “instructor” and “leader”, I loosen myself to reexamine my “opinions” and “position”.  I ask myself from the bottom of my heart that I have never felt or believed the fact that the children are born to pursue knowledge by instinct.  Furthermore I doubt deeply that the children have the ability to “rustle up food” to “feed” their stomachs of knowledge.  Yet they plunged into and gave a lot of assistance to the Aactivated Green program. It really presented the kids a wonderful opportunity to make the students and me have a fantastic beginning in “the procedure of the knowledge construction”, “knowledge stems from life’ and “care and sprout of environment and beauty”.

        It was very tough to research in the first place.  We felt uneasy for “the unknown” and “ambiguity”.  In addition it was difficult because of the self-limitation.  Therefore we obtained knowledge and self-confidence and created many valuable memories through the articles accumulated.         I adore the converted “me” and theconverted children.  Indeed, they are the energetic elves of the Activated Green on the  PaGua Mountain.

        Read what the studentswrote in the research report and then you will know that all their efforts are worth collecting and sharing.  We will remember the mutual progress in our life forever.  It is because the course is the most complete and meaningful.

        The Taichung Office is located in a very unnoted and small alley.  The wok team here is enthusiastic about our land and lives.  We can have further concept in our environment through the transparency pictures made by them.  We were moved to know each story from the trasparency and caught by the perceived environment.  What impressed me most was some pictures taken in the entrance of the forest.  These pictures had been taken in the smae place.  It was green and widely spread five years ago, and then it went down a little, at last, the forest looked bare one year ago.  Then I realized why there’s a sign with a tearful eye.  I think what it wants to say is the phenomenon of the withering.

        Let’s start from our own environment!  Hohefully such withering will be cut down day by day.  May Green activate again!
