We hope that our hardwork will preserve Teresa Teng's spirit forever

Background of the project Signing the petition Going to the Town Hall

The origin of the Petition

After we began studying the life of Teresa Teng, we interviewed many people associated with her, and gradually knew more about Teresa Teng. We also thought that the current young students should know this person, who at onetime was greatly popular and had used a dedicated attitude to enrich her entertainment career, which should be followed.

Further more, due to her fame, if we could preserve her former residence in Lujhou , then like other tourism areas we could allow people to visit it and share the wonderful voice and memories which Lujhou once owned, and therefore the idea of a Petition came to mind.

Conceptualization of the Petition

The prerequisite for the Petition was that we must let everyone know about Teresa Teng and what we were seeking, thus the Teng's Investigation Team was required to use various methods to let people know whom Teresa Teng was, and the following were a few methods we used:

¡EMaking Posters
The teacher divided us into three groups to produce the promotional posters for Teresa Teng. Within each group, we were divided into subgroups for data collection and DTP.

¡EMaking the Promotional Posters and Picture Book
[Date] 12.19
[Time] 10:20~12:10
[Location] Grade 5 General Club Room
1.The team-members displayed posters.

2.In turns, we spoke about Teresa Teng's life by separating it into Childhood, Adulthood and Later-life.

3.The teacher supplemented with her achievements and the action taken by the people to remember her, such as: Singing Competitions (Teacher Chiu-Chin Lai was awarded!)

4. The whole class was allocated into 6 groups, each with two members, responsible for drawing the adolescent stage, adulthood, and later-life.

¡EStory-telling tour
We went to each class to talk about the stories of Teresa Teng, so that more students could learn about her growing experience.

Story-telling notes Ai-ting Wang

Today Lin-hua Huang and I went to each class to tell the story together. I was really nervous at the time, and my heart was about to jump out! Our first stop was in 405, and at the time, we did not do well so we were disappointed, but at our second stop, I told the story while Lin-hua Huang explained the story's content, and we were terrific! I thought that afterwards we really began to tell a great story! Later, Teacher Lai suddenly took our a puppet made from a sock, it was called ¡§A-ji¡¨, which was named by Teacher Wu, and at our third stop I made use of it and really cheered the children up! What was even funnier was that, at our fourth stop with the Grade 6's, I still took out A-ji and used it to tell the story. At the end of the day, the teacher played Teresa Teng's music and Shi-hsiang Huang and Yu-sheng Hung from our class performed their dance, which made everyone laugh! I was really happy!

Notes about the Stand

¡· You-cheng Lin
Today a few of my teammates in the Teng's Investigation Team and I had visited each class for story-telling! During the process of telling each class the story, I was really excited! I am still just as happy as before and I feel like I have learnt a lot of things!

¡· Shu-ya You
For the past few days a group of us had set up a stand in front of the sport's equipment room. Our goal was to promote Teresa Teng, whose former residence is about to be removed. If you think that Teresa Teng's former residence should be preserved as a historical site then you can sign your name. After yelling for a few days, I really felt how difficult it was for people who yell a lot. Thanks to the teachers for their effort in instructing us, you have worked very hard!

Setting Up the Stand to Begin Signing the Petition

In the last few days, we had started setting up our stand in front of the sport's equipment room, and we arranged a mini-display of Teresa Teng in front of the equipment room. We also made our plea to preserve Teresa Teng's former residence into posters for the petition . After the school had heard our promotion at the teacher's meeting and student's assembly, large crowds flocked to our stand and made everyone very happy.

We joined with another Cyberfair in the school for a combined display, so this week it was very active in the school.

Comments on Setting Up the Stand Bo-hui Li

After we and the other teammates had finished promoting Teresa Teng's life, we got busy with setting up the stand and asked all the students and teachers to sign for us. We had requested those in favor of preserving Teresa Teng's former residence to sign. Although it was really tiring, but looking at the eager signing crowds, I really felt content and that all the recent hard-work was worthwhile. Thanks to all the teachers and students for your support!

After hearing our request, they signed their names.

Feedback

The response to the petition was great, as many teachers and students and even their parent had, after listening to the Teng's Investigation Team's explanation, responded by signing their agreement on our petition roll. During the process, we also received a lot of feedback, for example, someone wrote an opposing argument on the poster: ¡§Different generation cultivates different idols¡K So the former residence should be removed¡¨, while Teacher Fan of 602 was greatly in favor of our view, and he believed that our research and request needed to carry on, so that if our expected goal was not achieved during this event, then the next group of students and teachers could still continue to work on it.

We respectably accepted all the various opinions, as behind every thought is a meaning, just like in a debate where both sides made sense.

Comments on Setting Up the Stand Wei-li Wu

Today the members of the Teng's Investigation Team went on stage to promote certain things about Teresa Teng, and we also told the teachers and students of the school that, if they wanted to preserve Teresa Teng's former residence then they could sign the petition in front of the sport's equipment room. As soon as break started a lot of children came to sign for us, and in fact the whole stand was filled. We were very happy and we must preserve the former residence.

It was really busy in front of the stand.

Teacher Chen of 207 brought the students to see the display.

After communicating, a few times the teacher said that we could finally go visit the Mayor! We felt both excited and nervous, and, together with Teachers Fan and Lai, our Letter for the Mayor and the Petition Scroll signed by the teachers and students , we went to see Mayor Weng Lee at the Town Hall.

As soon as we saw the Mayor, we felt a sense of sincerity. The Mayor was very friendly and had asked us to sit, and there was even a hired photographer who took our photos! The Mayor accepted our letter and petition scroll and we expressed our desire to preserve Teresa Teng's former residence, which was supported by the Mayor, who had been discussing with the Director of the Teresa Teng Foundation , the younger brother of Teresa Teng, Mr. Chang-hsi Teng , on matters involved with the preservation of Teresa Teng's former residence. Since in the vicinity of Teresa Teng's former residence there is a total of 53 families in the veterans' village , including Teresa's former residence, that were illegally occupying the land, thus in future they will be forcibly removed. Therefore, Teresa Teng's former residence may be preserved by relocation , but due to lack of funding and location, it cannot be done immediately.

The Mayor also expressed that, if a suitable location and sufficient funds become available in future, then the construction of a Teresa Teng Memorial Hall , where her former residence and artifacts could be placed for remembrance, would also be considered. The Mayor also shared with us that he also graduated from Lujhou Elementary School and that he also liked Teresa Teng's songs. He believes that the former residence of such a superstar should be preserved so that foreign fans can come to trace Teresa Teng's past, which would be a great help in Lujhou's tourism industry .

We counted how many people had signed on the petition after the event concluded.

The Mayor accepted an interview with the Teng's Investigation Team.

After counting the signatures on the petition scroll, we totaled more than a thousand signatures in support, which was about half of the number of people in the school. Thanks to everyone for you enthusiastic response!

We handed over the petition scroll to the Mayor.
