Participate
in the Project of “Little Digital Hero” |
On
the last weekend before the new term begins, we went to Taipei with Ms. Cui-li Yang to learn from
their experience. It is the first time for us to participate in “Little Digital
Hero” of Hope Agent Development Association and we want to learn from their
rich experience. We shared ideas and exchanged experiences. The Fourth
Cyberfair failed last year because they were unfamiliar with the contest
procedure and they participate again this year to struggle for a better
performance. |

|
Hold
Meetings to Discuss Cyberfair Project |
The
headmaster called in the office workers and teachers to hold a meeting about
The Sixth Cyberfair. They proposed the subject, decided the students of grade
five and six as the main participants, worked out the outline about the
introduction of the tribe community and brought the study in the 2004
curriculum. |
2004/09/21
|
Decide
the kind and subject of the contest and call on the parents’ committee to cooperate |
We
have been considering the characteristics of Sinmei since we participated in the
contest. Then we decided to focus on the local tourist resources. We can not
only make the students understand their tribe and value their hometown but also
make the people of Taiwan and the whole world get to know new and beautiful
Sinvi through the web. We expected the involvement of the whole tribe and held
the parents’ committee meeting to ask for their cooperation. |
2004/09/27
|
Decide
the web structure and introduce the community from the three aspects of
history, humanities and sceneries |
The
headmaster held the second Cyberfair meeting and decided the web structure. The
subject of the contest last year was “Lost Takopueanu” but was finally
disqualified from the contest because we did not carry out students’ mutual
evaluation. This year we enrich the contents by putting together the old
subject as the past story and the new subject of humanities and sceneries as
the present story and give its name “The Past and Present of Niahosa”. We are
expecting a better performance this time. |

|
Organize
the students and teachers to program for the registration to Taiwan school network |
We
had Cyberfair Class in the second class of the afternoon on Fridays this term.
We arranged such activities as fieldwork and computer operation to collect data
for the website. In the first class, we arranged the member registration to Cyberfair.
We explained the origin of Cyberfair, the procedure and different items of the
activity and at the same time had the students get familiar with the computer
operation. Now the Sixth Cyberfair of 2005 is ready to work! |
2004/10/15
|
Formally
present the application form of the Sixth Cyberfair |
After
discussion, we presented formally to the Taiwan school network the
registration program of the Sixth Cyberfair. We filled out different forms
according to our subject and began the mysterious journey to the Past and
Present of Niahosa. |

Search
the data about bamboos on the Internet |
The
bamboo production is the main industry of Sinvi. So let’s get to know bamboos
first. In fact, both the teachers and students cannot recognize clearly the
kinds of bamboos. Then we asked the students to go online to understand
different kinds and uses of bamboos before the parents of the tribe took them
to do fieldwork the next week. |
2004/10/29
|
Find
out the distribution and industrial activities of the bamboo |
On
Friday afternoon, we invited the village head Mr. Ching-hui Yang to take the
students to see different bamboos and bamboo industries, to recognize different
kinds and uses of bamboos like Ma bamboo, Kuei bamboo and Plaster bamboo and to
see the utensils of bamboos and canes. In this way, the students can understand
how bamboos are closely related to our daily life. |

|
Sort
out the data |
We
form groups of 2-3 members. After each visit one group is assigned to sort out
data, type, collect pictures and then report to other members in the morning
the next Friday. This time Hu-sin and Yi-ting are on duty. |
2004/11/15
|
Understand
other industrial activities |
After
the previous study about the bamboo industry, we began to investigate other
industries like livestock, vegetables and fruits. We visited Bird’s Net Fern
gardens, boarpens, plum gardens, the picking of Aiyutzi and ate cold Aiyutzi
ice. We could not only understand the process of production in each industry
but also realize the parents’ hardship of work and the value of the food and
money. |

Work
out the interview list about camellia oil industry |
The
production of camellia oil is a special industry in Sinmei Village.
Every November to December is the season for picking camellia seeds. But the
students are very familiar with this industry. We searched on the Internet some
references about camellia to know how it grew and was processed to prepare for
the next visit. We worked out the interview list together and thought of 15
questions according to the data and our own ideas. |
2004/11/19
|
Study
the camellia oil industry and its production process |
We
invited the leader of the production and marketing team, Mr. Tzeng-hsiung Wen,
to accept our interview. First, we saw the picking of camellia seeds and the
fantastic scene of both flowers and fruits. We were very curious and excited.
Then we interviewed Mr. Tzeng-hsiung Wen about the growth, cultivation, picking
and oil extracting of camellia. Finally, we visited the oil extracting plant
and drank fresh camellia oil. |

uses of the oil. We learned a lot from their introduction. |

After
the study of the industry, we began the investigation of natural sceneries. On Friday,
we invited the President of the community to do the fieldwork about the Niahosa
relics with us. Many valuable relics had been discovered here by National
Museum of Natural Science a few years before. The President told us many
stories about Takopueanu and taught us how to distinguish stones from
stoneware. |

On Friday,
we were very excited to visit the beautiful and mysterious Ghost Pool. The Yayi Valley
recreation section is an alluvial fan beside the Tzengwen river and is a best
tourist area along the river. The Ghost Pool has a sad touching story by which
we are deeply moved. |

The
visit to the sight of the Yaisana paths |
This
is the first path that winds up from Sinmei to the first neighborhood of
Yaisana. The scene becomes more beautiful when you climb up along the path. It
is especially fit for climbing when the path condition is fine. On the way, you
may pass Dutch Water that is said to have fantastic effects. The Dutch who were
once chased by Cheng Cheng-gong drank the water and escaped quickly. |

Work
out the interview list about the handicraft industry |
Mr.
Chun-hua Shih is a master of making traditional costumes and handicrafts. There
have been few craftsmen in the tribe. Mr. Shih moved from Tapaytt to Sinmei ten
years ago. This traditional technique can be developed with his unselfish
instruction. We discussed the interview with Mr. Shih and raised many questions
to make the students understand the valuable assets of the traditional
cultures. |

|
Study
the handicraft industry and works exhibition |
Mr.
Shih was very happy to accept our interview. He shows great enthusiasm to
handicraft though he cannot walk easily. He was always ready to answer our
questions, led us to visit his workshop and various works and told us many
stories about traditional costumes. |
