The Shift of Hsien-Hsi Beach
Hsien-Hsi is a small coastal township. There is a long beach on the west of Hsien-Hsi. The elder people have lived here, played here and grown up here since their childhood. Both the long beach and blue sea are the dependence of Hsien-Hsi natives. As a result of the time changing, the younger generations were not willing to earn the livelihood by depending on nature. Therefore, the younger people moved out.
In order to improve the structure of the industries and increase employment opportunities, the government started to plan to establish large-scale coastal industrial district in the center of Taiwan in 1976. Therefore, the northern coastal region of Changhua was chosen, pulled out the sand, and filled with earth. Then, the Changhua polder was formed. People planed to bring some foundation industries, such as petrochemical industry and coal-fired power plant. However, the natives and environmental protection association had resisted for many year. Thereupon, Hsien-Hsi beach was greatly changed.

We heard our grandparents to recount that at Hsien-Hsi beach they could play with water, catch the shrimp and enjoy the sea breeze. We didn't know how amusing it was because this big original plain was disappeared. However, it is lucky that there is still a small coastal plain existing in Hsien-Hsi beach and people can smell the flavor of original coastal plain.
