The Kuo Yuan Ye Museum
was established in 2001. In the beginning, they hope to
exhibit the old cultural relics in the factory in Taoyuan.
However, Kuo Yuan Ye wants to introduce Taiwanese pastry by
more vividly ways, so that there are History Display,
Wedding Ritual Area, Play Room, and Creative Baking
Classroom on the fourth and fifth floor in the Kuo Yuan Ye
Museum Shihlin Branch.
We visited the Kuo Yuan Ye Museum in Shihlin Branch near our
school on December 16th, 2022. We went to the fourth floor
to buy the tickets, there are Play Room and the Creative
Baking Classroom there. Coincidentally, we saw many
elementary school students visiting there, too. Mostly, we
visited the History Display, Wedding Ritual Area, and Red
Silk Ball Experience Area.
The Curator, Mr. Chang introduced each area to us. From his
thorough introduction, we learned the establishment process
of the pastry shop and many rituals about pastry. For
instance, the red turtle pastry also called ¡§Full Moon¡¨.
There are different shapes. The round one means blessing,
joyful and complete, and it looks like the breast, hoping
the new born baby to eat well and grow up soon. When the
baby is about four-month old; there will be a ritual. That
is to collect the baby¡¦s saliva. The elders will string up
12 cookies to a red string and put onto the baby¡¦s neck, the
cookies will be on the baby¡¦s check. And then pull out each
cookie to wipe the baby¡¦s saliva, saying blessing words
like, ¡§Collecting the saliva, there will be another baby
next year; collecting the saliva means wishing the baby to
say Dad and Mom soon.¡¨ at the same time. That means to
collect the baby¡¦s saliva, we are going to have another new
baby next year, and the baby can speak soon.
We interviewed the curator, Mr. Chang in the Wedding
Experience Area, visited the Wedding Ritual Area, and wore
the wedding head decorations in the Experience Area.
The Kuo Yuan Ye Museum is an interesting museum which helps
us to get to know more about the pastry culture of Taiwan!
