My
name is Hsiu-Wei Lin.
I hope to introduce the declining culture of Pu-Tu to
people through this Cyberfair project. Hopefully, it can
stay alive in the heart of everybody, rather than just
the distant memories of local elders. I feel proud that
I am from Lukang, and I believe we should preserve
traditions and customs, so that we can pass down this
cultural heritage.
I saw many
valuable cultural resources by participating in the
Cyberfair project. The Song of Pu-Tu in Lukang is
really a great teaching material for homeland education.
It is a good run-through of old place names,
neighborhood blocks, folk religions, handicrafts, food,
religious vessels and offerings. It is a good window
into the culture and history of Lukang. I want to use
the Cyberfair project as a medium to contribute
to the development of culture, not only for Lukang but
for the whole world.

Pei-Chu Wang |
My name is Pei-Chu Wang. I am a
warm and open-mind person. My favorite part of the data
preparation is to have interviews. It is necessary for
us to summarize the key issues for discussion before the
interviews, and then organize these points by
transcribing the audio recordings afterwards. What the
local seniors and teachers told us equips me with
knowledge about my hometown, as well as Pu-Tu and the
song.
However, I
have to confess that I encountered frustrations when
working with the data. How could I transform the
knowledge from the seniors into my own? How should I
edit the data from different sources into my findings?
What could be the concise words and sentences to make
others understand our project easily? All these questions
bothered me so much that I even thought about quitting.
Luckily, I made it through with the help and company
from my teammates. While the process was challenging, I
enjoyed looking for information and consolidating it
into my own findings on Pu-Tu. The stacking up of words
and sentences in the Cyberfair project is like the
accumulation of love for my hometown. I wish I can pass
down the knowledge from seniors and Lukang culture can
become a heritage for future generations.

Pu-Hsien Wang |
My name is Pu-Hsien Wang. I am a
vibrant and optimistic person, I enjoy communicating
with others, and I am good at writing and giving
speeches. I am happy and feel privileged to be a member
of the Cyberfair team. I learned how to identify the
most appropriate information from a sea of data. The
process of seeking information taught me a lot about the
tradition and culture of Lukang and the glory days of
the “Fucheng, Lukang, and Manka” period. I also came to
realize the importance of teamwork. We can only
accomplish tasks by working together and helping each
other. I got a better understanding of the old places
and the culture of Lukang from the Song of Pu-Tu in
Lukang. Growing up here, I am more than willing to
pass down the culture of Lukang by doing my part. I
would like to thank our teachers Ms. Lu, Ms. Li, and Mr.
Lu for their guidance and instruction. They proofread
our writings, pinpointed where the problem was with the
data and indicated where revisions were necessary.
Although I found it tedious, I told myself that I should
be persistent in my efforts. I have benefited a lot
during the process, regardless of the final outcome in
the competition. I believe what I have learned is a
great asset for my growth and development, for the
present as well as the future.

Hsuan-Chieh Yu |
My
name is Hsuan-Chieh Yu.
I am an outgoing and adventurous person. I like to
challenge myself for new things. This was my first time
working with the Cyberfair project. I was thrilled and
excited, and I hoped to gain new knowledge and more
experience. Much to my delight, I have benefited and
achieved a lot! I got to know more about my hometown
Lukang from the Cyberfair project. I did not notice
there is a unique song dedicated to Pu-Tu in Lukang.
Without the learning in more detail from working with
the Cyberfair project, I would probably still think
Pu-Tu only occurs on July 15th of the lunar
calendar all over Taiwan throughout the years. I also
acquired the skills of looking for information by doing
research for the Cyberfair project. Though I was very
frustrated in the very beginning, because I had no idea
how to start due to the wide range of data sources, I
gradually became better with it and slowly built my
knowledge about Lukang. Through the Cyberfair project, I
got to know many teachers and seniors who have worked
hard for the preservation and advocacy of the culture in
Lukang. I really admire their dedication. I feel honored
to be part of the Cyberfair group. I have learned so
much and realized the importance of teamwork and
cooperation.

Ciao-Syuan Shih |
My name is Ciao-Syuan Shih, a
member of Lukang Explorers. I am an optimistic person
and I like to make friends. Besides, I enjoy collecting
data. I am always happy to do reports for school
assignments, because I know I can learn a lot while
searching for information. I am very satisfied after I
have consolidated all the data, since it becomes part of
my knowledge bank. Before the Cyberfair project, I was
clueless about web page production. After our teachers
gave us some concrete instructions and showed us the
winning works from past years, I gradually developed a
deeper understanding of the Cyberfair project. I
encountered bottlenecks when looking for data, but the
interviews with the experts in the history and the
culture of Lukang resolved my problems. By working for
the Cyberfair project, I have learned new knowledge and
developed the skills in information searching . I’ve
also realized the importance of teamwork throughout the
whole process.

Yu-Hsin Nien |
Hi! My name is
Yu-Hsin Nien. I am happy to participate in this project.
I still remembered how surprised I was when the teacher
approached me for the opportunity. I am a bit careless
and disorganized, and I tend to do everything at the
last minute. In fact, data collection and
organization is never my strong point. I really
appreciated this learning opportunity and the great
experience. When I started with data collection, I was
overwhelmed by the volume of data. I had no idea what to
focus on after reading so many articles. Then, slowly I
could identify some keywords and highlights from the
texts. I felt happy and a great sense of achievement
when I saw the data I have organized. It made me forget
how tirelessly I have worked. I want to thank my team
members. They know that I am a blunderer so they kept reminding me what to do
next and helped me collect the data I had trouble
finding. By working on the Cyberfair project, I acquired
the skills in data collection and organization and
realized the importance of teamwork and collaboration.

Yi-Chin Huang |
My
name is Yi-Chin Huang.
This was my first time participating in the Cyberfair
project. I was happy and worried at the same time. As
the research topic, the Song of Pu-Tu in Lukang,
is about my beautiful hometown, I grasped this
opportunity to get to know it better. We interviewed
three experts in the tradition and culture of Lukang.
These interviews opened my eyes and I then realized that
I had known next to nothing about Pu-Tu in Lukang. I
learned and benefited a lot about the Pu-Tu culture of
Lukang from the seniors. Lukang is really a place full
of treasure, a rich, interesting and historical place!
There is still so much waiting for us, Lukang Explorers,
and everybody to discover. So, join us and let’s explore
Lukang together!

Chun-Hsin Shih |
My name is Chun-Hsin Shih.
It was my first time taking part in the Cyberfair
project. I was nervous and excited. I signed up for the
project because the research topic is about my hometown
Lukang. As a person born in Lukang, I think I should
know more about my birthplace; how embarrassing it would
be if a person does not know about his/her hometown! The
experience as a member of Lukang Explorers is
transformational for me. The three interviewees are very
familiar with the traditional Lukang and taught us about
its history and culture. These seniors showed us what a
wonderful place Lukang is. I benefited and learned a lot
from these three interviews. There are so many history
stories we could talk about and I really enjoy them. I
am so glad that I have made the right decision to sign
up for this project!

Wei-Jung Hsu |
I am Wei-Jung Hsu.
The participation in the Cyberfair project taught me how
to communicate and cooperate with others. In the past, I
just finished personal assignments and worried about my
own timetable. However, in this Cyberfair project, I
needed to work with my team members so that we could
support each other. When we went out to take pictures of
the Pu-Tu sites, we spent a lot of time going around the
different villages in Lukang. We also interviewed many
local celebrities. This made me a bit nervous. Besides,
searching for the relevant information took us plenty of
time. It was hard work, really! Looking back, I feel I
have grown a lot. In the meantime, my parents knew about
my potential since they accompanied my teammate and me
to different sites for photographing. I am so happy that
they said they are proud of me. I want to thank my
teacher for inviting me to take part in this
competition. We are determined to make Taiwan great. |
Yo-Chia Wen |
My name is Yo-Chia Wen.
This was my first involvement with the Cyberfair
project. I was completely new to Cyberfair. This project
taught me how to collaborate to accomplish a task. I
used to do everything myself, but it is different with
the Cyberfair project. I cooperated with team members in
data collection, photo taking and interviews.
Information gathering was really time consuming.
Sometimes I took work home so that I could finish in
time. While the process was demanding, I did not find it
difficult because we, Lukang Explorers, worked together.
I got to know the importance of teamwork. We all did our
best to complete this project. I learned a lot along the
way, including new knowledge of my hometown, different
skills of word processing, and the spirit of teamwork. I
would like to thank the teachers, for this opportunity,
and the group members, for the teamwork.
