1.QingXin Garden
Migratory Birds
Representative: Malayan night-heron, Formosan blue magpie, grey teeepies, and Chinese bulbul
Home Range: Mostly in QingXin Garden. They rest, search for food, build nests, and sometimes breed.
2.Forest Whisper
Migratory Birds
Representative: collared scops owl
Home Range: Collared scops owls have been visiting for the past few years. Luckily, this year they also built their nests and breed in the Nature Area. During night time, if you hear the sound of “hoooo”, you know they are here.
Resident Birds
Representative: Pale thrush, a winter migratory bird.
Occurrence time: Fall and winter.
Home Range: They usually come to find food and take a bath in a pond in the Forest Whisper. We can see them through the infrared camera.
3.Glowing Pond
Migratory Birds
Representative: Chinese pond heron, common kingfisher (a 12-centimeter small bird, aka river kingfisher)
Home Range: In the pond there are some mosquitofish (topminnow) and aquatic insects, which attract birds to find food. That’s why we often see the sight of common kingfishers.
Resident Birds
Representative: Pond-heron
Occurrence time: Every October. Then they will leave around May or June.
Home Range: Around the Glowing Pond
