Learning should not be confined in classrooms. Taking a step outside of campus, one can even learn from hometown community. There are many domain experts in the community for us to discover. They exert their specialties to boost the development of economy, making them close-to-life teaching materials. By the chance of instructing children in the participation of Cyberfair, we took them to personally discover the domain experts in the community, hoping them to learn during the tours and interviews, absorbing the information they obtained to turn them into their hobby and specialty and hopefully, their learning effectiveness will be improved and their motivation to learn ignited.
I hope, though this thematic exploration, children not only gained knowledge of different domains, but also identified themselves with their hometown community, contributing themselves to the betterment of our beautiful hometown community.
The members of Experts Expedition conducting the Cyberfair project – Experts By Our Side – are not the students chosen by the teachers but those who are have interest in it and volunteered to participate. We carried out the spirit of prompting the students to learn actively. The students cooperatively drew up questions for the experts and asked further questions after the introduction, recorded the interview and transcribed the data. It is a truly precious and rare chance for a fifth grader. We are appreciative of the help offered by these five experts: Mr. Zhang, Jian Feng, Mr. Fang, Shi Wen, Mr. Hong, Rui Hong , Mr. Chen, Zhao Qiang and Mr. Zhang, You Sheng. They provided us with tours, detailed information, and mostly, they answered all the questions raised by children, giving a genuine chance for the students to learn from the role models and further cultivate love for their hometown!
We’d like to express our appreciation to the experts of Ben Feng Farm, Mushroom Tribe, Pin Rui Farm, Fu Jing Restaurant and Xin He Chun Soy Sauce Factory for their full assistance in our project exploration. We saw their passion and persistence in their professions. Through the process of interview, we realized the attraction of knowledge integration, shared the warmth of hospitality and got a sense of accomplishment in completing the project cooperatively as a team. Love sprouts in teachers and students’ hearts and love blossoms and sprawls on campus and in the community. Jing Siou Cyberfair Exploration Train has set off nicely and blissfully.
