Origin of Kaohsiung

一、The origin of the Kaohsiung name-translation homophony

Version one

Before the 14th century, Daogou Island was originally the residence of the Makatau tribe, a branch of the Siraya tribe of the Taiwanese indigenous people. Around the 15th century, the Makkadao tribe here resisted incoming pirates, using thorn bamboo as a fortification, and named the place as "Ta-kao". "Ta-kau" was translated into Chinese as "Dog" or "Drum".

Version two

Supported by Taiwan historian Weng Jiayin, he feels that "hitting a dog" is a rumor of Japanese learning phonetics. It was originally Tancoija drumming. It was an onomatopoeia of the sound of the waves. The "Bamboo Forest" that the person guessed was not related. The spelling of southern Fujian later turned into Gushan, and then turned into a dog fight. The naming rules for this place name are very similar to "Gulangyu".

Version three

In addition, in ancient Japan, Taiwan was called "Takasago", which is also related to Kaohsiung's ancient name "hit dog". After the Japanese rule in Taiwan, it was renamed "Kaohsiung" because the "Ta-kau" sound was pronounced in Japanese near the Kaohsiung Mountain (た か お) near Kyoto.

二、The origin of the Kaohsiung name-Country legend

Version one

"Mountain Xiaoxiao" is named: Gushan is named after the distant view of the mountain, and its source is a piece of "Drum Mountain, Vulgar Dog Mountain." The hole is the ancestor of Qiping in Anping Town. Its shape is like a drum. Therefore, it is named. "

Version two

"Big stone is like a drum" and the name is: the foothills of the main peak of Wanshou Mountain are larger and sharper, and the boar rhyme of his majesty has a large stone like a drum. It will rattle.

Version three

"Avoid Drummers" and the name: Yu Wenyi's continuation of the Taiwan House Zhi Zaiyun: "There is a stone Buddha in Shanxi, and Zhou Ren will burn the paper money after this." There is a stone tower in the north, a parasol island in the south of the stone Buddha, standing in the middle of the sea, and the boatmen passing through it will sing the paper. "And Chen Wenda ’s Fengshan County has a similar saying, saying: To the left and right of the Drum Mountain, there are stone Buddhas in the west, and the boat passes here, and the golden drums are used to present paper. "Sui Yun, Drum Mountain is named after the boatmen drumming.

Version four

"Misfor Tiger as a Dog" is named: It is said that Zheng Futai was often harassed by the Fan ethnic group in the early days, but Tangshan imported a pair of tigers into the mountain forest to obtain the effect of deterrence. Tiger Wei, hunting in groups, the two tigers lost to one of the injured and fled to the Minxiong, the villagers mistakenly as "magic cats", swarming and chasing, so they called their land as a cat. The other one ran to Kaohsiung. The villagers mistakenly thought of "dog spirits" and also chased them together.

Version five

"Siyuan nostalgia" is named: The name of the drum was the earliest ancestors who came to Taiwan in the early Dongdu and stubbornly cultivated the land. It was named after "Gushan", which remembers its hometown, Minhou County, Fujian Province, to be comforted. To alleviate the pain of homesickness.

三、 The origin of the Kaohsiung name-Origin of history

Version one

According to current archeological investigations, human activity records in the Daogou area date back to about 7,000 years ago. The official document in plain text appeared in 1603 (one year for the Ming Dynasty Emperor Wanli). At that time, the general of the Ming Dynasty, Shen Yourong, led a sailor to Penghu, Taiwan, and pursued the pirates. He was a member of the Fujian army and wrote "Dong Fan Ji". Kaohsiung is known as "Dagouyu".

Version two

Shoushan (Chaishan) is called Dagu Mountain in Old History, also known as Dagou Mountain, Qilin Mountain, Snake Mountain, Bujinshan, Chaishan, Shoushan, and Wanshoushan. The rate of change of the mountain name is very high. Its rename history is similar to the history of the transfer of Taiwan's regime. From the 15th century Dadog Mountain and Dagu Mountain, to the eighteen blue-gold legend of Lin Daogan during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, also known as buried gold mountain; People often go to the mountains to pick up firewood and sell it behind the flag and Hama Star, so it is also known as Chaishan. In the Japanese occupation era, the Japanese changed their birthday to Shoushan for Emperor Yuren; Later, the city council changed back to Shoushan, but in the end Kaohsiung people still used to call the friendly place name of Chaishan.

Version three

Drumming is Pingpu dialect. The bamboo forest means the place where the Makkadao people live, and the folk transliteration is playing dogs. At that time, the Han Chinese called them Dagou Club, so the names of Dagou Mountain, Dagou Island, and Dagou Port appeared. The reason why it is called drumming is because the official feels that the dog name is indecent, and it is replaced by the drum name.
