Anka Festival

Anka has always been an important and traditional product of the Shulin area. 2007 marked the first year of the Anka Cultural Festival, which helped to bring the cultural aspects of the city out for others to see. When someone brings up Shulin, they should relate it to Anka, and vice versa. By bringing Anka out from the memories of the past back to the forefront, many will be able to recognize and experience the connections between Shulin’s culture and Anka.

At the time, the mayor of Shulin created the Anka Cultural Festival to promote local industries, cultural traditions, and tourism. The mayor planned “Anka Culture” as the theme to promote “One Town One Product” (OTOP) for the Shulin area. This proposal was approved with the title of , “Shulin’s Anka, a Glorious Revival” and was selected as one of the Happy, Beautiful, Metropolitan Taipei Festival’s 19 cultural attractions in 2007. It was hoped that even with the limited resources available, the unlimited power of the citizens’ participation in the festival would make the “Anka Cultural Festival” the prime representative of Shulin’s culture.

Since 2007, for 13 years, the Shulin Anka Cultural Festival has been hosted annually during fall weekends, where the cute Anka Baby mascot, the Anka Cultural Festival’s premier spokesperson, helps make the festival extraordinarily popular; this has attracted many local residents to come attend the festival every year.
