Reflection From Our Team

6-1 Reflection

Shirley Li

By going from being a novice to being able to properly maintain each website, each member met with unexpected change and improvement. In each discussion under the guidance of our teacher, each person was immersed and provided construction opinions. Even though at times everyone would get lazy, but when surrounded by hardworking companions, everyone would stop themselves from laziness. During the research of this project, members' enthusiasm and appreciation were not only toward Mr. Mao-Long Lin, a master at restoring ancient calligraphy, but also toward the importance of teamwork. Before being part of this team, I always thought making a website would not cause any difficulty. This changed when our teacher started teaching us from the basics. Each task was related to the other, and collaboration was required. Even more important was communication. In conclusion, I'm happy that I could be a part of the competition for Taiwan School Cyberfair. It opened my eyes and allowed me to see a different world.

This research was rocky from the beginning. When picking the topic, we had difficulty deciding. At first we wanted to research on bronze vessels, but National Palace Museum did not allow us to conduct interviews. Therefore we decided to research about Mao-Long Lin, a master at restoring ancient calligraphy. Unfortunately, Mr. Lin got into a car accident right before our interview. In the end, we had to do a phone interview. Before this research, I only had a surface understanding about the restoration of ancient calligraphy. After researching historical information and visiting Mr. Lin's blog, I found out about the techniques for restoring ancient calligraphy and the importance of these techniques toward the preservation of cultural heritage. As the one responsible for conducting the interview, I had the chance to talk to Mr. Lin firsthand. Mr. Lin described his enthusiasm toward his work and his persistence. He talked about not giving up despite difficulties such as unsupportive family members and economic barriers. Each of us could face the same problems when trying to achieve our dreams. When one's dream conflicts with reality, it is important to keep a positive mental attitude in order to be successful. In the process of making a website, I learned about the importance of cooperation. Since our team members were in different classes and even different departments, we usually did not have much chance to discuss. By periodically setting up meeting times, we familiarized ourselves with each other's schedules and assigned tasks according. I'm honored to be part of the competition for the Taiwan School Cyberfair. I benefitted and learned a lot, including keeping a positive attitude from Mr. Lin, techniques for building a website, and cooperation.

When starting this competition, I was assigned to build the website. At the beginning, I was surprised because I had never made a website before. However, because of this competition, I learned something different and increased my experience with designing. The task started from picking the right website template and trying out different styles. By finding the necessary components, it would be time to design the unique website for our team. Even though it was hard to innovation during this process and to come up with a satisfactory website, but through cooperation and support, the website with ancient style was created from the conglomeration of everyone's ideas. My classmates and I learned a lot of new techniques in the process. Under our teacher's guidance, our website became more intricate. In this competition, not only did I gain technical knowledge, I also improved mentally.

Taiwan School Cyberfair provided a very meaningful competition. The competition not only allowed us to gain knowledge from collecting a large amount of data, it also allowed team members to deepen friendships while working together. Even though there were often arguments and small disagreements, in the end there would often be an excellent resolution achieved through cooperation. I thought we had a great team. Even though we couldn't advance in the competition, our team did our best, so there is no regret.

In the beginning, our teammates were not familiar with each other, and we were surprised to be assigned to the same team. After numerous instances of cooperation and discussions, we familiarized ourselves with each other and formed a special understanding, which allowed us to overcome many difficulties. Perhaps we had some quarrels and disagreements, but eventually we would reconcile in the midst of laughter. For this project, all team members devoted a lot of time and effort but also gained a lot. No matter how this competition turns out, this cooperative project will always be a beautiful memory to look back on in the future.

I'm very happy I participated in the research for Taiwan School Cyberfair. Our topic was special and is about the restoration of ancient calligraphy and artwork. Through this research, I can deeply understand the value of ancient artifacts and their significance. Through restoration, these artifacts that ancient people left behind can continue to the present and even future generations. We understood that it was in fact very difficult to repair those artifacts, so we found a esteemed art restoration master, Mao-Long Lin. In the process of finding information, we learned that Mr. Lin did not have an easy life. He relied on his own efforts to seek opportunities, walked through debt, and successfully founded Takayuki Church. After that he worked hard to restore works, so had a very good reputation in the industry. Starting from when we first hear our topic until now, in order to complete the perfect website, we found copious detailed and complete information. For this project, our team sacrificed our holidays to meet at school. I hope our efforts will not be wasted.

As the production for the Cyberfair comes to an end, even though everyone is busy with clubs, academics, family events, and other competitions, we still devoted time to the Taiwan School Cyberfair. As mentioned in the poem we used, when reflection in one's time of sunset, perhaps when recalling this moment after a few years, even though we had to work until sunset, it would not be bitter, but fulfilling.

This is my first time to participate in Cyberfair. I learned a lot from the course of this preparation. For example, techniques for communicating with a group, as well as learning how to organize information. However, the preparation was hard because, as a student, there is too much thing to do, and distributing time was difficult. As a result, I started to feel a little impatient. But after reconsidering the whole situation, I found out that things mess up because of my laziness and bad time distribution. So, I will remind myself to use time wisely and not to assign time in an undisciplined way.

Last time I participated in Taiwan School Cyberfair already, I was in elementary school. I missed the fun of participating in Cyberfair, so I decided to join this club. The environment was completely different from what I remembered, and almost all the members were upper classmen I did not know. However, after several discussions at club meetings, I became more and more familiar with team members. This project encountered two difficulties. First, I was assigned to one of the sub-pages, but I could not find any information for the sub-pages, so I deleted the last of the sub-pages. Second, our group was behind on the progress, so we decided to spend our winter vacation researching and finishing the web pages. Finally, I learned a lot in this competition, such as the importance of communication, cooperation, and also knowledge of ancient call

After participating the Cyberfair, I learned a lot about ancient calligraphy. For example, the knowledge of how paint changes through the ages but still can handed to the modern heritage. Moreover, I also learned a lot of skills in researching and also gathering information. Because this is my first time to participate in the Cyberfair, I always wanted to work very hard and do my best to not to disappoint the crew. Although the process still encountered many problems, for instance, to handed in the assign work late, to forget to attend the meeting etc., but in the end we overcome them all.
