2. Profile of “Local leaders”

Resided in Hemei Town, Changhua, Daddy and Mommy Wu not only have a heart of gold but they are proactive in efforts.  Reluctant to see children deprived by poverty, they decided to apply to become a qualified foster family and to give children love and a safe place for growth, and healthy development of their personality. 

This year, Daddy and Mommy Wu received commendation by the Changhua County Government for being a model foster family.  They took care of 13 foster children in 6 years and as of today they have continued providing such fostering service.  They have taken care of smaller children 3 or 4 years old, discovered their intelligence and accompanied them grow up happily.  They have taken care of moderate retarded girls and helped them stand up on their own.  They have taken care of junior and senior school students through their stormy period of puberty and guided them toward a positive personality……, such programs have ushered in a new life for them with Daddy and Mommy Wu’s endless love.  In liaising with Mommy Wu, we were surprised by the destiny of Mommy Wu with a team member Fang Ying.  About a decade and more ago, Mommy Wu assisted the mother of Fang Ying during the month of confinement for childbirth.  Indeed, she was the wet nurse of Fang Ying!

3.Feature research program overview:

An ancient saying goes:  “In sympathy with the starved and the drowned.” Daddy and Mommy Wu have resorted to action to show there is no boundary to love.  They are an ordinary family and ordinary spouses.  Touched by children who are in dire need for assistance to grow up in a healthy environment, they raised money after their children have grown up and set up a warm environment to provide the children a safe home.  They did not give up despite frustrations.

How many people are willing to become foster families and accept and take care of the exhausted bodies and the empty souls?  Thus, we hope to understand why some people are willing to become foster families through the opportunity of feature research of Taiwan Schools Cyberfair with dribs and drabs of the journey in taking care of foster children.  Hereby, we have set our research direction as:

◎ The path toward the foster family: Try to understand why Daddy and Mommy Wu are willing to become a foster family.
◎ The Beastly Boy:  Try to understand Daddy and Mommy Wu’s unforgettable first experience──Story of the First Program.
◎ They Hedgehog Boy: The most frustrated and touching story about Daddy and Mommy Wu in taking care of foster children. 
◎ Fly, fly, children: What are rewards of Daddy and Mommy Wu in taking care of the foster children? What prompted them to stick to it in face of difficulties and frustrations? What blessings and words of encouragement they would like to give to the foster children?

4. Our Internet environment:

◎ School internet environment:  The school has 3 computer rooms, and 120 computers for use by students.  The school local area network is formed by 100M optical fiber net.  We utilized the Windows local area network, and placed the information onto the internet server host and discussed together.
◎ Home internet environment: At home each team member has computer and ADSL network; and we use emails, Facebook and Line for discussions, then forwarded the discussed information and reports to the team leader and teachers for compilation and correction by email.

Information skill

Photo is not clear and reflective, and files are too big; unfamiliar with image processing and operation of the webpage editing software, so it is difficult to accomplish the job alone..

The teacher utilizes sparetime after class to teach camera operation, photography skill, and learn to use relevant software in group study to complete webpage production; team members can jointly engage in joint discussions.

Documentation integration

Team members collect sorted data, complicated content and different sizes of photos made it difficult to systematically edit, organize and swiftly integrate onto the webpage.

Follow the webpage feature program and architecture from discussions, and request the teacher to complete the website analysis and design a webpage template, then turn over to the team members for compiling the webpage and hold regular discussions. 

Common time

Assemble team members for visits and joint study on holidays for webpage preparation; sometimes, for supplementary tutoring or personal and family reasons, certain team members cannot participate each time.

With advance planning for joint discussion, team members can collaborate, and those who cannot participate may use noon recess time or use e-mail, Facebook to share experience and learning for discussion.

Interview

We have no interview experience and do not know where to start with consultation, recording, photography and preparation for interview.

For first time, the teacher would assist with consultation and arrangement of interview date and time. The teacher would also counsel us about etiquette and other details of interview and assist with collection of relevant information and drafting of interview content and job assignment.

Work schedule

Though we have planned the research subject and direction in advance, study pressure in junior high school is comparatively high and we do not have spare time for drafting documents, plus we do not have adequate opportunity using the computer to do in-depth research  report, and word processing is time consuming

Team members can supervise work schedule, and the teacher would constantly remind us and  provide assistance.  We can utilize noon recess and holidays to assemble all team members, engage in discussions and share experience. Efficiency can improve through mutual cooperation.

6.EStudy notes:

Love is selfless and warm and delivers a better brave world.  Mommy and Daddy Wu spent money in order to provide better food and clothing for the children.  We’re so happy but why don’t we cherish happiness and gratitude? We see more care and selflessness in Mommy and Daddy Wu, and we have learnt how to care and pacify children who do not know how to manage their emotions.
In the course of feature research, we have learnt“Unity is power.”  We cannot accomplish a theme and a webpage alone.  We cannot afford the loading and it is inefficient either.  Why not join together in discussions, split work and continuously improve the structure and content.  Thus, a touching webpage will come true starting from zero. 

We wish to express our thanks for Taiwan Schools Cyberfair in giving us this opportunity.  It enhances our understanding for the team itself and liaises the sentiments of others.  It also arouses our action for care and improves our capability in webpage production.  Thanks for guidance of our teacher, assistance and tolerance of our parents, and the hard work of students.  We have learnt a lot in the course and we have experienced sadness, conflict and frustrations, but we have gained more happiness and joy.  The indelible memory of joy, anger, sadness and happiness belong to all of our students of the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair.
