Description of Our Community
Taipei Municipal Changan Elementary School is located Zhongshan District and south of the downtown Taipei City. School is closed to the business district and has convenient transportation. There are Songjiang-Nanjing MRT Station and Jilin-Nanjing bus Station.
CCNDA is located at No.45, Lane 33, Section 1, Jianguo North Road. It takes 5-10 minutes to get from Changan Elementary School to CCNDA by Bus 52 or Bus 202 and 25 minutes by walking. CCNDA, serving eight boroughs of southern Zhongshan District in Taipei City, is a local group caring for the disadvantaged.
Summary of Our Project
It is social fairness and justice caring for the disadvantaged. We discovered that our society still lacks of caring for the disadvantaged students, groups, and areas. Without counseling assistance or measures, the weak people may always be weak and the strong people may always be strong, which will hurt the society’s stability and development. Therefore, it is urgent to build an environment that helps the disadvantaged people and develops sound social welfare. We hope the introduction of CCNDA can encourage everyone to respect diversity, care for the disadvantaged people and fulfill civic responsibilities.
Our Computer and Internet Access
Our teacher built the Changan 27CWSC web platform for us to upload and update data as well as handing in assignments. When we had no time to meet together, we also used the website discussion forum to discuss. Our teachers also let us use the computers in the classroom of gifted students during lunch and recess to complete our study progress.
Problems We Had To Overcome
Data compilation
After interviews, we had to organize the data. We divided tasks, such as writing scripts, writing interview thoughts, and compiling data. The data was very helpful for our research. After the survey, we did statistical analysis and created bar graphs to help us study data. The process for discussion and reading graphs was very time-consuming, but we became more efficient as time went by and our experience grew. It proves our abilities did grow.
Time and Efficiency
We decided the topic in mid-September. Most off-campus teaching and services were executed in November, so it was the busiest period. The activities during this period included activity planning, interviews, writing and editing, and website data collection. We almost could not take so much work during the short period of time, so we needed to watch and help each another in order to complete the
jobs efficiently. Also, we needed to fulfill our weekly progress goals, because any delay would accumulate and cause the schedule fall behind.
Teamwork
Work distribution is a very important procedure. The principle is distributing our work according to our ability and expertise, so that we complete each job easily and more efficiently.
We first chose our jobs according to our own expertise, and then took our teacher’s suggestions. Teamwork is very important; we couldn’t have gotten our jobs down without the encouragement of our supervisor and each other, thus, we created strong relationship of tactful understanding and cooperation within ourselves.
Our Project Sound Bite
During the interview, we learned much that we did not know before, which changed our team’s original perspective and impression of the topic. Mr. Hung-en Chang, the Secretary-General, told us that companionship provides us strength. Children need adults to accompany them, since that is where their security comes from, and hence accompaniment is a great thing. The selfless care and dedication coming from our volunteer teachers taught us that their love came from their heart. From this Cyberfair project, we learned that we needed to respect people who do not have what we have and understand the difficulties caused by difference. We also improved our research ability and language. Most importantly, we learned to help one another and care for the disadvantaged. We hope our research can encourage more people to care for society and make it more harmonious.
