Luban
Feast
Lukang, the largest craft town in Taiwan, has numerous
craftsmen. In order to celebrate Luban¡¦s birthday (Lunar
calendar May 7), Lukang held the ¡§Luban Feast¡¨ to
worship Luban. Lukang¡¦s Luban Feast, which was
established in1996 and registered by Changhua county
government as an intangible cultural asset of the Folk
and Relevant Heritage or Belief Category in 2008,
combines religion and crafts, and exhibit crafts on show
tables. The activities include ¡§The Best Carpentry
Teacher Ceremony¡¨, ¡§Banqueting the Founder with Crafts¡¨,
¡§Lukang¡¦s Best Carpentry Teacher Association Changing
the Furnace Master¡¨, and ¡§Thanksgiving Performance.¡¨ |

1. This
year's Luban Feast was held in Lukang Culture Innovation
Hall of Uni Resort during May 31 and June 4. |
2. Inside the hall, the stage was decorated with red and
golden screens and looked very cheerful. Additionally,
the craft works occupied 108 tables and looked very
majestic. |

3. The
tables for the ceremony were set up with offerings,
wines, and everything else that were needed.

4. The ten protectors were in place. |

5. The
servants with five treasures were in place. |
6. The ceremony students
(Wan-neng Chen, Chen-yang Shih) and ceremony servants
were in place.

7. The officiant
(Hong Meng-qi, vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture)
and six officiant assistants were in place. |
8. The ceremony started
with the ¡§five treasures¡¨ offering by the officiant.
¡§Offer one Wengong meter; offer one ink marker; offer
one ax; offer one saw; and offer one set of compass and
rectangular ruler.¡¨

9. Next, he
incensed, offered flowers, wine, and silver, recited
prayer, offered golden papers. The ceremony finished in
a solemn atmosphere.

10. The
accompanist of the ceremony, Yazhengzhai, is the oldest
nanguan group in Taiwan.
