Thoughts for participating in this Cyberfair

After participating in this Cyberfair project, we really feel that we are so small. Some people give up their better work and come to this deserted countryside for farming, so as to realize their dreams. The cultivation method without using pesticide and fertilizer is adopted to make people eat the organic and non-toxic crops and to keep ecological balance.

Thanks to their attention and efforts, more people can eat the reassuring foods, and the birds and insects can live at ease and freely; the most beautiful scenery is presented with the most natural method in this piece of land.

Through participating in this Cyberfair project, I have seen the idea and greatness of these nobodies, and also have understood the hard work and insistence behind the farmers in Hsichou. Thanks to them, the villagers in Hsichou can eat the local organic vegetables and fruits reassuringly and healthily.

During the process of participating in this Cyberfair project, I have discovered some persons, things, objects which we may not pay attention to, for instance, some kind-hearted people in Cheng Gong Hotel cultivate some vegetables and fruits in organic and non-toxic method so that people can eat healthy foods and vegetables, such as Shangshui Rice, Happy Pear and other similar reassuring agricultural products. Compared with those conscienceless manufacturers who producing the crisis of national food security, these farmers provide the most solid food backing in local Hsichou for us.

On the farmland, insects and animals grow harmoniously, so I hope that crops can grow in a natural way without spraying pesticide, and I also hope that this method can carry forward on the farmland of Hsichou, so that we can coexist together with nature and live happily.

Through this Cyberfair project, I know very well that there is a group of enthusiastic people who contribute great efforts for farmers and land in Hsichou, not asking for anything, and they just hope that their “love” for this piece of land can be passed to everyone, and more people know the beauty in the countryside. It is hoped that Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co. Ltd can make more outsiders understand that being engaged in “farming” is also a happy thing.

With the observation and research for these days, I have found that I can finish the report easily with the mutual cooperation with classmates. Without their help, I don’t know when I will be able to finish this report. This participation also enables me to know the Shangshui Rice in Hsichou better.

I feel greatly honored and pleased to participate in this project. This participation not only makes me know Shangshui Rice but also gain great improvement and advancement. Most importantly, I should appreciate the help of my teacher. With their help, we can grasp firmly all of our issues and main points without any missing. More time paid for these days is worthwhile. Thank Cyberfair project for giving me this opportunity.

In the past, I didn’t know that so many farmers stick to such idea in Hsichou Township. They not only establish “Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co., Ltd.”, but also the consumers can enjoy the rice and food at ease. Cultivation method without pesticide and fertilizer is adopted so that we can eat at ease and we are also reassured for our health. Besides, “Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co., Ltd.” also adopts the acquisition with assured price to guarantee farmers right. Thus, farmers can try to use the non-pesticide and non-fertilizer method to cultivate their own paddy, without worring about the production amount. This rice is called as  “Shangshui Rice”

I have also discovered that “Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co., Ltd.” not only promoting and marketing “Shangshui Rice” but also “Pear Paradise”, “Agricultural Bookstore”, “local food materials”, etc. Farmers and “Hsichou Shangshui friendly agriculture” participate jointly in many activities. Merely as far as I’m concerned, there are 5 farmers of Ms.Hsiu-chen Cheng, Mr. Chiang-shui Luo, Mr. Yuan-bao Hsieh, Mr. Yuan-Jen Chen and Mr. Ming-chin Liao. Besides, there are also other 17 farmers participate in thses activities. They take the trouble to improve their own rice quality. Not using the pesticide, they have to go to the field in person to catch insects; not using the fertilizer, the time, effort and money required are multiplied. However, in such situation, no farmers give up. On the contrary, more and more farmers identify such method and more and farmers participate in it.

However, they also encounter many other problems in addition to not using pesticide and fertilizer, such as sales. In spite of the acquisition with assured price, the increase in cost causes farmers' income to be at the edge of profit and loss. The “Shangshui Rice” has better taste than ordinary rice, but there is still the problem of shortage of production amount. The mass production will certainly lead to farmers' using pesticide and fertilizer as well as the quality reduction.

In spite of many problems about “Shangshui Rice”, they still cultivate the rice quietly and laboriously in the unnoticed place, not asking for anything. They just hope that everyone can eat better rice. This is why I think they are the greatest farmers.
